Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
It is early 2010.
You are a veteran officer of the British Yorkshire Regiment with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan behind you. You are preparing for another trip to Helmland province, but just prior to deployment your orders change. The government of Yemen has asked for UK assistance in their struggle against the terrorist network Al-Qaida. You are to lead a small British battlegroup with a supporting role and help the army of Yemen deal with the terrorist threat. Officially, that is the story - but all is not what it seem to be... |

Ok Imp, here we go - this is the modern one (it'll be a bit of desert-fighting to begin with, hope you don't mind).
Install the files into your campaign folder. It will use campaign slot 018. The first scenario will be a 1 turn affair. The second one is where the game proper starts. Be sure to save the game before the battle ends, preferably on the very last turn before the end screen comes up. This must be done to allow additional scenarios to be added to the camp. Don't be reckless with your core. Some refitting points have been added but you can not allow yourself to wast any units. Good Luck and Good Hunting! :) |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Cheers for the quick response
|
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
No worries! ;)
Just remember to save the game before the battle ends. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Well Wulfir praise where its due I have only just looked at & have to say was not quite expecting that level of detail. A scant few hours after you get mission parameters I have the start of a tailor made campaign with a nice background report. intel etc just like a normal user campaign. Rock on looking forward to this thanks, nice map by the way which brings me on to my next commision.:)
You seem pretty good at knocking out nice maps pretty fast after all quite a few in the game are yours from scenerios you have created. I was wondering if you would not mind if you could knock up a few with PBEM or vs AI generated battles in mind. Specifically made to be reasonably balanced for meeting engagements as most maps are more suited to advance delay. Off to see if I can keep my boys alive & ever make it to Afganistan or wherever you take me. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Damn MGs just shot at a Panther & killed everyone on board & it was going so well.

Thought you might be up for it but no real pref I play most of them though think majority do central Europe.
Possibly generic multipurpose. C. Europe, Hilly rough for Balkans Korea etc, Some Russia like steppes African plainsetc. Your call depending on mood any will be helpfull & some theatres obviously take longer than others. I am sure any would be appreciated. The Yorks seem to have run into stiffer resistance by the way |

It draws attention to the whole Yemen operation, which can be damaging to both the British and Yemeni governments... |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
British and Yemeni Government Forces relation more my concern, turns out passengers destroyed onboard Panther were Yemen offered a lift by us. Efforts are being made to keep them from the front as training not the Mae West they seem to have a habit of blundering into the enemy causing casulties. Pleased to report this is not the case for our boys training means we get the jump on the rebels. Toe hold in North of town Southern force meeting resistance en route.

Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Wulfir noticed you have another one going Autumn 73, I was going to download it & tag along as having great fun in this one:up: Suddenly thought I assume its possible once the player/you have had enough to actually release as a User campaign for general release. Could even ask the players for a little feedback make the odd change if like though if mine is anything to go by standard is high.
Campaign designers in general this is a very good way of playtesting if release to a small group of volunteers. |

From the designers viewpoint, this is a more rewarding approach than building a campaign like "Race for Tehran". However, it remains to be seen if it can actually be compleated...;) |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
The man has a plan will confine future comments to email if thats okay with you. Also more than happy to play when any are nearing release stage.

But do send me the save files when you are almost finished with the scenario - remember that the game must be saved before the black end game result screen comes up... |

Sending now

Good work Imp, impressive feedback too!
Right, here comes the tricky part: 1)Unzip the files. 2)Install the txt files into your campaign folder. 3)Install the scenario files spscn427.cmt and spscen427.dat into your scenario folder (not the campaign folder). 4) Start the game. 5) Add scenario 427 (The Best 02: At Tur II) to slot 002 of Campaign 018. You do this by entering the Edit Campaign function. 6) Save (in the lower right hand corner of the Edit Campaign screen you'll find the save button. Click it when the new scenario has been added). 7) Save again. 8) Go back to your saved game and contine from there. The new txt files should appear along with the next battle. Post here if you (or anybody else) has any questions. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Nice clear instructions for install the boys are on it.
Good mission breif nice & clear made obvious Czech Eng need protecting so had a look at 300 points a pop best not lose any if I want to remain in charge of this task force:eek: Sold 2 Jackals & scouts as said |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Been playing this as well... It's been fun. I lost a couple of vehicles in the 1st battle.. Should have used my Yemenis ;-)
The second battle was a lot easier. Looking forward to more. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Will be sending to Wulfir for the next instalment shortly as you said good fun, LOS round top right village was a bit challenging think partly due to dust from my mortars. Have you made any changes to your core? I swaped snipers jeep for a Stalwart ammo carrier as plenty of transport & changed 2 Jackals to GL equiped instead of slap for variety. Sold 2 jackals & scouts at start of 2nd battle for play balance as they are pretty powerfull finding the enemy well. Also for play balance think should only have 2 or no Scimitars till things hot up as they make light work of snipers etc so think would slow your advance down a bit. Sure Wulfir would be intreasted in your views

Same procedure as before with the new files.
The mission to Yemen is progressing fine in most areas, except maybe in the media - both Arab media and at home. Althoug the rebel movement is crumbling there is no room for errors...:dagger: |

sounds good - any feedback welcome. Ps If you want a "Dynamic Campaign" of your own it's easy to set up - especially as you seem to know how it works ;-) |

Also how does the campaign know to carry on with the same core as the previous scenario? This is the piece that I don't understand. If I tried to design a scenario for this campaign, do I have to pick the same core as the previous scenario? I hope I am explaining myself. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst

You will not be able to edit the first two scenarios, i.e. 000 and 001 because I did not include the source scenarios in the initial zip. You can replace them if you want to with something you've done yourself, or I can send them over, if you like. However, you can change the core option from FIXED to OPEN and change the number of build points for any battle. This is done in the campaign editor and will allow you to buy your own core - which is maybe the easiest way if you want to buy a new core. Quote:
Post here if you have any other questions! |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Played throught the first battle, those Yemenis on your side are tough! are those 1337(a.k.a elite) troops?

The opposition, however, are n00bs..., nearly all of them. :D |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst

With a campaign the first mission you buy the core plus any enemy (not present in this case) So to edit the core you have to restart from the begining. All further missions as added in campaign editor your core is set & carries over you only buy enemy units & any bought for the player side are AUX units <!-- / message --> |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Well the rebels managed to get there hands on some RCLs catching us offguard as to date AT weaponry has been very light. Worst loses of the campaign so far 2 Mastiffs down one with a squad on board, looks like I will be writting some letters home.
Funny really smallist force so far causes the biggest loses. |
Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Damn it!
Forgot to include the txt breifing for the last battle..., bit late, but here it is anyway... End scenario txt battle 002: * * * At Tur,* Yemen* February 4, 2010* * * Excellent work!* * You have met all mission objectives at At Tur. London is happy, the Czechs are happy - the Yemeni government is especially happy about the great number of Rebels you managed to slot.* * On the diplomatic front the negotiations don't seem to be getting anywhere but we have learned that the Rebel rank and file is losing hart. There have been a great number of desertions lately.* * Yemeni Army units will soon be replacing you at At Tur.** Mission intro txt battle 003: * * * Dayr Ad Duhnah,* Yemen* February 6, 2010* * * You have advanced west along the main road from At Tur skirting the big mountains to the south. Now you are getting close to the important Dayr Ad Duhnah crossroads.* * This area is sparsely populated but remains under Rebel influence.* * Your mission is to clear out any troublesome Rebels near the crossroads so that it can be opened for supply traffic coming up from the south.* * Rebel strength in the area is supposed to be weak - both in numbers and fighting spirit. We know that they have some heavy weapons that were stolen or bought from the Yemeni army earlier. It is possible many of the heavy weapons fielded by the Rebels were actually given to them by pro-Rebel elements in the Yemeni army.* * Also, you will be on your own this time. There’s only going to be you and the bad guys out there.* * Overall the mission to Yemen has been progressing well but our deployment here has been given a lot of attention in the media the last few days, both Arab and at home. Not all of it is positive. We can not afford to make any mistakes.* |

After the crossroads battle, a lull...
...reinforcements arrive from the UK... ...the media is not particulary supportive of the Yemen mission, but political back-up remains solid... ...the rebels avoid confrontations in the open..., but in the town of Az Zuhra Yemeni army units stir up resistance... ...IMFORCE will now face the possibly worst modern warfare can offer... ...urban combat... |

Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
Wulfir laptop just died so borrowed to contact, going to be a week or so before finnish as cant access & off sailing to. Shame as about halfway through & resistance has stiffened up now in town proper, started easy enough but they are being tricky blighters now. Remind me battle 2 recomendation as in my view its the one that needs a bit of work to bring up to standard of others

Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
That was expensive back in business may knock out in next couple of days as in Hobart & gail warnings 90knots so might stay a day or to, wind good fun today though. Nice defence in the middle of town Ulf round fortified house pleased to report Mastiffs armour pack can shrug off RPGs from a side hit though city streets are taking their toll on men.

Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
The town is now in British hands email sent

Re: Dynamic Campaign: The Best and the Worst
congrats...
I haven't had time with that one yet. I did modify the entire campaign to use airmobile paras. I sent it to wulfir to take a look at it 1st since it's his campaign. I am the middle of the 1st battle. It is a little different since there aren't as many vehicles... mainly chinooks and paras... |
