Questions about National Heroes

I have a couple of questions about national heroes - you know the guys who randomly show up at your castle and volunteer to help out:

1. Are there any new national heroes in Dom II, or are they exactly the same as in Dom I?

2. Do you get the same heroes no matter what theme you're playing, or are there theme-specific heroes?

3. Do you need a positive luck scale to have national heroes offer their services? If so, does it make a difference how far the scale is tipped - i.e. are you just as likely to get a national hero with luck +1 as with luck +3?

With regard to the latter, I've read people saying that in Dom I you need to have a positive luck scale in order to get your heroes, but I didn't find this to be true. In fact I found my national heroes showing up just as often with luck 0 as with luck +3. How is it in Dom II?

I'm not betatester or anything, but:
1)Yes
2)Theme specific Heroes would make sense
3)I don't think so, unless this has changed from Dominions I. Getting Heroes is a "good event" so i think Luck scale does affect getting Heroes.

I think too that National heroes shows up more frequently in positive scale, but I remember an occurence where I had luck -3 and got one.

Someone just said they had luck -3 and got a hero. I expect it effects the chances, as would make perfect sense. I think I have luck 0 in my current game, and got one fairly early, and a long long time later, a second one.

Well, I'm playing with luck -3 all the time lately and total number of special heroes I've got is exactly 0! So I would say that luck scales have effect in Dom II.

As far as new heroes is concerned, since you have new nations its logical they will have new heroes. Old ones seem to have all those from Dom I (maybe changed a little) and probably few new ones, but I not 100% sure because of -3 luck scales ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) and the fact I haven't played Dom I enough to compare.

As far as I recall the chance of getting a hero is .005 +.002 per luck scale per turn. If pocus is correvt there is a change in the code that I do not know about or a bug.

There are new theme specific heroes as well as a few new heroes for some of the standard themes.

Carrion Pangaea for example gets an Ettin manikin commander etc. Tien Chi gets a number of immortals. Desert tombs a Mummified priest king with some extra powers etc.

It's a good thing that there is a greater number of national heroes, their scarcity in Dom1 was a shame, as they really add spice. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Now i feel unsure. I still think that I had -3 luck in my testbed (Marignon with order +3 luck -3, to suppress nearly all (bad) events), but perhaps it was -2 (1% chance then).

strangely I would have thought (from experience) that you have more chance to get an hero early, as mines often appears in the 20 first turns. But you formula dont account for the passage of time.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I'm not sure I understand… Is that a percentage? So on the first turn, with no luck scale, your chance is .5%?

And are you saying it's cumulative? - so .5% 1st turn, 1% 2nd turn, 1.5% 3rd turn, etc.? And I'm assuming this gets reset when you actually get one?

It still seems quite scarce - after 20 turns the chance would equal 10% with no luck scale, and with +3 luck scale 22% - if my reasoning is right

Thanks for the answers - it's cool that there are theme-specific heroes. Looking forward more and more… http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
