OT: SecurROM

I bought bio shock today as it is on sale from Best Buy. I install the game but I cannot run the game because this program called SecurROM says that my disk isn't the original disk.... Um, yes it is, its the DVD disk that came with the game!

Any one else have this kind of a problem with this SecurROM program?

Things like this is the official and (I'm pretty sure) legitimate reason that Game Copy World exists. Search for Bioshock and download the no-dvd fixed exe (I checked, they have that one). Backup the original game executable, then replace it with what you downloaded to eliminate the check that's failing for you.

Yes, this could be used to make a pirated copy work. You would have to obtain said pirated copy from somewhere else, however, and GameCopyWorld does have legitimate uses such as this one, along with an emphatic legal notice and anti-piracy warning that takes up almost the entire entry page.

Also can try GameBurnWorld and GameFix.

Also at GameCopyWorld, and GameBurnWorld they have areas where you can learn more about the copy protection schemes including SecureRom.

Another thing that may be preventing your use of the disc is a virtual drive that may have been setup by Alcohol120% or Daemon Tools.

Crackers have to rescue even legitimate customers these days.

See, that's what you get for actually buying the game. You should have copied it and everything would have been fine!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have this problem with both Hellgate:London and Witcher. They often fail to start from the installed shortcuts and menu items, and say stuff like "wrong disk, retry/cancel".

With Witcher, I have to go to the DVD and click the executable, and with Hellgate:London I have to open the DVD drive and then close it before I can use the shortcuts.

Re: OT: SecurROM

The system is a CoreDuo 2.3ghz running XP home sp2 with a GeForce 8800 GT with all the latest drivers and direct X updates.

I want to thank you all for this help. As you are aware I have an original copy and simply want my copy to work and the advice you have provided gives me the tools to see that happen. Again thank you. An update: I was able to find a work around by turning off NERO system activities and moving the disk to my portable DVD/CDRW drive.

I contacted the SecurRom help site as well as 2k games and while I couldn't understand a bit of what the man from 2k games was saying, his Australian accent was authentic, he did direct me to the site that eventually helped me to get the game working the and only time it did work. SecurRom wants me to do some kind of system analysis and such and send that to them. I am not comfortable with that as it should not need to be done in order to get a game that was legitimately purchased to work.

I sincerely appreciate all the advice that has been offered, however because of the nature of my problem and the existence of a "work around" that technically could be viewed by some as tentatively inappropriate in that it might be construed as a mild form of an officially frowned upon method for resolving such issues, I feel that locking this thread and allowing it to pass quietly into the dark is appropriate in order to avoid any possible violations of Shrapnels Terms of Service. Again thank you all very much for your help.
