Sort by date avail - is it working?

I had a question about the sort type - date avail function in the encyclopedia. I'm assuming this is supposed to sort units by the date they become available. However, it doesn't seem to do this perfectly. For instance, on page 2 of the USA section, "Engineer Sqd" (Jan 1930) is in between "B-17" (Jan 1941) and "60mm Mor H/T" (March 1941).

I'm trying to check for newly available units in between battles - i.e. to see what new unit types I have access to for upgrades and so on. But if the sort doesn't work, I have to look at every single unit in the database available at the time I'm looking. That takes quite a bit longer.

So, is it broken or is it sorting by something I'm not seeing? If the latter, then what and why?

Cant remember the name but use the avaiable date function. This will just show the units that are available for that date and therefore what you can purchase.

Are you talking about the date filter - current date (on the right side of the sort selection screen)? I am already using that.

But I don't just want the units currently available. I want the currently available units in order of the date they became available. That way I can check to see what the newest units are, so that I can quickly see if there's anything to upgrade to.

To do this, I'm using the sort type - date avail (on the left side of the sort selection screen). But it looks like it's either broken or it's doing some other kind of sort. I'm asking what sort it's supposed to be doing, and if it's different from what I'm expecting... why? (I.e. what utility is there in what it's doing)

One option would be to export the oob to a csv file, then open in Excel or other spreadsheet and sort by the available column.

Interesting. How does one export an oob to a csv file?

That's not what its designed to do............it set up to show you what is available for the date you have set for your battle so something that is available for the entire run of the OOB could be right beside something shiny and new. It was never designed to show units in order of the date they became available........it looks at the entire OOB and shows you what is available for the month and year you have selected

Are you certain you and I are talking about the same function? I'm talking about the one on the left column, not the right one. See my post, above.

The engineer squads (UC 20) do seem to be out of order - everything else seems to be OK, on the "date avail" sort with "all dates" filter applied. It will need looking into.

As to dumping a csv - that is a Mobhack facility.

cheers

Ah, since it is an error, then I should point out that the it's not just the engineer squads that are out-of-order for that sort with the USA. Other examples include, on page 3, the two Snipers, the Marksman, the Shelter Bunker, Ranger FO, and Airborne FO.

On page 4, the M-H T16, P-39M Aircobra, B-25C Mitchell (both versions), A-20B Havoc, and GPA Amphib Jeep.

On page 5, the T25E1 Scout Car, The Jeep, The Jeep AOP, Cavalry Mounts, AA Jeep, Arm'd Bulldozer, Pack Mules, M4 HS Tractor, and Ammo Dump.

On page 6, the Dmntd Armd Inf, Flamethrower Tm, and Heavy Truck.

On page 7, the 105mm Battery, 4.5in M1 Bty, 155mm Gun Bty, 8 Inch How Bty, 8 Inch Gun Bty, and 155mm Battery.

On page 8, the Ammo Cannister, M3 Ammo Carrier, HMG Section, LMG Section, the four Ranger Squads, Ranger Scout, Ranger Pioneers, Hamilcar, Horsa Mk II, the first five P-38 Lightnings, the three Bunkers, the LVT(A) 2, Ski Scouts, P51D Mustang, LVT(A) 4, and Booby Trap.

And page 9, like page 8, has more things out of order than in order.

This is just the USA, mind you. A quick look at Germany shows the same problem.

Go to Utilities Tab in Game Options.
Click on MobHack OOB Editor.
Select the OOB you want to export to csv.
Click on Open.
Click on Load/Save Tab.
Click on Dump CSV.
Go into the WinSPWW2 folder/directory.
Go into OOB folder.
Here you will see any CSV files you have just created.
Open the Unit csv file.
Delete any columns you don't need/want.
There's a column for First Year, First Month, Last Year, Last Month.

Sort by year/Month...
