Well...I haven't played all that much. I played the demo quite a few times thru. Here is my take on the game as I know it:

Docs:
Pretty good. All the docs are in .PDF files. There are 3 .PDF files. Two are about modding the game the other one is the user's guide. The user's guide is pretty good.

Graphics/Sound:
Very simple and retro. If you saw the demo you know what to expect. No animation that I could see. Not a problem for me, because I mostly care about gameplay. Sound is very simple, but again, does the job it needs too. The graphics/sound do a fine job and blend nice into the retro feeling of the game. Good thing is, if you don't like the art you can change it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Gameplay:
Still not sure here. I'm having fun with it for sure, but it seems to be lacking something. The small inventory is a huge problem for me. In some ways I like the 'free' RPGs like Angband and the others better. The game seems very simple. Keep in mind I'm only level 5 (with my current character) I liked the demo alot so I'm sure it will get better.

Price:
I feel for what I got the price seems high to me. I was expecting more modules to come with the game. The full game seems pretty much just like the demo with more areas. I'm hoping since the game can be modded and it does generate random levels, that I will be able to get quite a bit of gameplay out of this title.

Overall:
I'm happy I got the game. Malfador/Aaron have a history of going WAY beyond what most people would do for game support. I also have SE4 which got MAJOR patches and additions. I'm sure DO will be the same. This fact alone offset the cost and the questions I have with Lasting gameplay. The modding and random level creation is going to add alot of reply value to this game. I think I'll be playing it for some time.

Try the demo (if you haven't) see if you like it. If you read the forum Aaron is already releasing another Version to the testers. I'm happy with my purchase overall.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Neet little thing on the graphics - if you convert Civ 3 terrain to 256 color (otherwise the 255,0,255 color gets distorted) resize the image to match what is used in DO, and then reconvert the image back to 24 bit, the images will work fairly well, and make a large difference in how it looks.
