Laurus : Game On!

Era: LA
Players: 14
Map: Map has been generated. I stole urrapand, and turned some of the water provinces into ice covered wastelands. This should reduce the problem with R'yleh being the only water nation, and give some interesting ice-land bridges for land nations to cross over. Map link is below.

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showt...807#post672807

R'yleh still has access to many more water territories than a land nation will, but they tend to be in straight lines, instead of one big pool, so I think it balances out by slowing expansion and creating dominion issues.

Host: Llamaserver, PBEM
Mods: CBM 1.4 (Just straight 1.4. There is no air 8 bug.) >>NOT 1.41<< Make sure CBM 1.4 is enabled during pretender creation so that you have the correct point costs for your gods
Hall of fame: 15
Graphs: OFF
Renaming: ON
Victory Conditions: Conquer every territory, or earn concession from remaining players
Everything else default

Hosting Intervals: 24 hours until turn 20. After turn 20, when 2-3 people request it we'll move to 48 hours. Upon request progressively more time will be added as the game moves into later turns.

Game has been started on llamaserver, please upload your pretenders.

I'd guess you want to have this prefixed as MP, rather than Map. Unless the color was to draw attention to it, in which you have succeeded. :)

I'd love to do a wrap around map. I'm not good at map editing, though :( Actually I asked for help on the basics of map editing a long time ago, and no one seemed to have any idea.

If you know someone that would like to spend the time connecting a map like that, and editing the graphics that it would at least be palatable, we could totally play on a wrap around map.

Haha. I'm in the process of having that happen to me as well. Hopefully I can cripple Kissblade before I'm finally eliminated D:

I am in the same boat - I just posted a request for a basic overview. Anyway, I'd like to play if we use a wrap around map. I'll take any nation that I haven't played before - maybe Gath.

I played LA man in the other game. It was just a problem of the fact that the preset starting positions meant that Kissblade could land his dragon on my capital on something like turn 3. I was building a 3 turn build fortress since turn 2 (or three I can't remember), but then he moved his dragon there which was pretty unlucky for me since it tore down the castle. So I spent my money on the castle, and he recruited mercenaries.

Personally I think it was a stupid game, you're stuck in this valley with another person and you HAVE to rush each other. Oh, and you know exactly where each other's capitals are.

I really prefer just more generic setups, with less crazy rules and distortions to the main game.

I'll put you down tentatively for Gath so that you have them reserved, and I'll try to get us a wrap around map. I'm really okay with anything as long as it doesn't make my eyes bleed.

More and we have a higher risk of a forever game...

Woops. Made an error. Please go to the map link, and redownload it if you downloaded it before this post. The one I had there originally had the wrap-around part turned off. Just redownload it, and extract the zip file to your maps folders to over-write the old map.

Isn't 25 sea provinces too many when there is one water nation and 12~ provinces per land nation?

I know it's a bit much, but R'yleh is going to have territories stretching in straight lines.

If there's still a big ruckus about it after you look at the map itself, I can look at consolidating some of the water territories.

odd the map isn't displaying as wraparound (the wraparound link ar in though) when I played a few test games the map did display as wraparound.

Redeyes February 8th, 2009 04:03 PM

Re: Laurus : UPLOAD PRETENDERS!

Yeah, but if you didn't see it still behaves like it is wraparound with edge provinces linking to other edge provinces at the other side of the map...

Re: Laurus : UPLOAD PRETENDERS!

Ugh.

I PM Llamabeast asking him to change the map stored for the game to the proper version of Icyurraparand. Unfortunately he never answered that PM, so it never happened.

I'm going to take the game back to waiting for pretenders, upload the new map, then change the map for the game hosting to the new map, and restart the game. Hopefully people won't have to resubmit pretenders.

OKAY! The new map is uploaded and the game has been restarted using it. I just took my first turn. Starting position got worse :( But otherwise the map seems to be working fine. Download the new map below. icyurraparandv2

Re: Laurus : Game on!

It seems like it doesn't matter how many players there are in a game, there always seems to be one that holds up hosting every turn. That's not a criticism - people have real lives to attend to - just a wry observation.

But the one thing that can make the game proceed almost twice the speed that it otherwise would is if the last player to submit orders waits a few minutes for the turn to host and then takes their next turn immediately.

It's 24 hours, but I think llamabeast extended it by 24 hours when he did some fixing with the map on the server side.

I might try looking for a sub if Arco doesn't get his stuff together.

That would lower the number of land nations on the map...

Thoughts?
