Firing while moving + howitzers

Hi

I have two suggestions:

1) One should be able to fire during movement instead of only being able to fire before moving or after the movement is completed.

2) If I'm not in error the boardgame "Wooden Ships & Iron Men" (whose mechanics are in fact very similar to "Salvo!", by the way) supported rules for howitzers and, of course, grenades. Are you planning to support these in future versions?

Cheers,
Antonio

I've checked Wooden Ships & Iron Men and in fact the Combat Phase is also resolved after movement.

Two more suggestions though:

3) Drifting (maybe it is already supported?)

4) Carronades (already supported?)

Cheers,
Antonio

Carronades: yep, some ships are equiped with them.

Drifting: currently only fireships 'drift', once you ignite them.

I liked the idea of firing while moving, also, but it wasn't feasbile for Salvo I. Maybe we'll see it in Salvo II. The battles are intense now when there's a number of ships all mixing it up, but with 'passing' shots, that would really add to the mixture http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
It would requre more combat commands. You wouldn't want to automacticly fire at a crippled ship you were passing by, if you were meaing to go after one just past it.

Carronades

You mean that this is supported? Then how can I see how many Carronades a ship has? And what is (in game terms) the effective range of a Carronade in comparison with normal guns?

By the way, I have checked again WoodenShips&IronMen and it also does not support howitzers/mortars or grenades.

Antonio

Re: Carronades

Antonio:

Unfortunately, as you have noticed, gun variation is not _directly_ modeled in Salvo, so you can not see how many Carronades or 32 Pounders, or whatnot your ship has. While it is not directly modeled, it is factored into the default ship Quality Factors for the US and England. Their ships do a little better (due to the QF) than other ships with the same number of guns. (Unless those ships have been improved in a campaign.)

Exact and accurate armament will be a decoded factor in Salvo II, or whatever the next version is called.
