WinSPMBT version 10.0 - 15.0 Consolidation patch 2021

the 2021 patch updates any version of WinSPMBT ver 10 and up to version 15.0

1/ For scenario design and editing there is one improvement and one addition

* When editing weapons data in the game editor for any of the four weapons a unit uses, the weapon number of the current weapon now appears when you click on the weapon button. Anyone who has tried to edit weapons data in a scenario in the past will know how much simpler this makes the whole process as in the past the only way to know what weapon # was used was to check the unit in MOBHack and it slowed or discouraged that kind of editing which was normally used to adjust the ammo count. The entire process is much simpler now.
* The Sound used by the weapon is now the final item shown. It would be rare to use it but it is now available and the existing sound # will show when you get to it. You will need to have knowledge of the existing sounds in the game however.


2/ Assault boats would sometimes show as burning wrecks. This has been corrected. They will be removed from the game map when destroyed as was SOP in the past.

3/ The unit name is now reported in the casualty message - this is handy to know which unit actually got hit in collateral damage situations

4/ Armoured cars that were capable of carrying passengers inside will now protect passengers in the same was an APC does. Previously the code considered them to be outside on the hull.

5/ There is now a 250 limit on changing the height and density of a Hex but they still cannot exceed the normal limits already in the game.

6/ Some changes to Engineering units

Engineering infantry now have a slightly reduced chance of inadvertently setting off a mine when entering a mined hex

* The text for mine clearance (second number) has been changed to "(X remaining)"
* Defending engineer infantry will now only clear mines, barbed wire and dragons teeth if they physically enter the hex containing them in order to allow defending engineers to sit just behind the defences without clearing their own defences. It has been a small annoyance for years that if you placed your own engineers just behind your defences they would start clearing them. They still can but when in the defence but now Engineers must enter a mined / Barbed wire/ dragons teeth hex to dismantle their own defences. In the defence, they can no longer do that from one hex away.


7 / Aircraft occasionally would enter the map, make their attack run then do an instant 180 and leave the way they arrived. This has been corrected

8/ Passengers will now report "CARRIED BY: "..... normally this is obvious. They are in the vehicle carrying them but occasionally legacy scenarios would have ghost/doppelganger units and this allows those of us that fix these things the ability to know where they are supposed to be and when put into the transport that is already carrying their twins, cease being a ghost unit.

9/ Occasionally on very small maps the game would place V hexes on grey border hexes that neither side could take. This has been corrected

10/ Pressing K was reported in the Help file as a way to turn ID tags on and off quickly. This function did not work but now does. It's very useful for someone who may not like to play with ID tags on all the time but finds it useful for finding stray units. Now pressing K will turn on the ID tags when they are off and off when they are on when the game is being played. K does not work during deployment.

11/ The name of unit that has suffered casualties has been added to the message that appears on the bottom of the screen. It will now read...." Infantry Group - Suffers X casualties (Y)" with X being the number taken now and Y being the accumulated total.

No. If they have a carry capacity they will be considered to be inside and not clinging to the hull

A couple of days ago I just finished my 500th game, well actually 349 for MBT and 151 for WW2 for a total of 500. Today, I'm playing my 350th MBT game, so that makes 501, which is kind of significant (depends on you look at it)! Anyway, I think this year's update will fit in nicely.

am happy there is a update!! I was disappointed when I read last year might be the last. I hope the amount of research stays the same. I would say this is one of my favorite war games. I really want to get into working on this game and creating content. Working on computers is tough for me as I design board game. I worked a small bit on the side for DVG. This is the ultimate war board games. I am so happy there is a patch for 2021!!

It's really not all that different from a board game.
Instead of charts you have what are basically spreadsheets.

Weapons are used by units.
Units are used by formations.

Yeah I want to figure it out. I am mostly intimated by making Sprites or graphics. Getting the A.I to behave correctly. Is there a guide that can help get me started?

If your wanting to create scenarios, I suggest you start small. You can look for any of my scenarios for some ideas (use ScenHack and search for Don Lazov).

Generally, pick the environment, date and time (for example Normandy, France, June 7th 1944), then set the mission type (try a meeting engagement) and then select sides (try USA vs Germany). Start low for this one say 400-800 points. Purchase both sides (no tanks, just some infantry so you can learn the art), then deploy them. Now set the time and victory points. Oh, save a lot. Then this is crucial. Play Test. And after you have play tested, play test it again and then switch sides and play test it again and then just when you think you got all together as RetLT to test out your create. Warn, you should not have thin skin during this process, he will rip your creation apart exposing every weakness, hole, and exploit and you'll soon see how foolish and incapable you truly are. Fret not young one, persistence and determination to achieve a decent scenario will be rewarded over time. There is a lot more details to discover but I don't want to spoil all the fun of learning.

Making sprites isn't THAT hard.

About an hour's work of spriting can get you a brand new unit into the game; something not possible with a full 3D game (at least a week of solid 40+ hours to get a textured, rigged 3d model minimum).

Pretty much I have been enjoying just playing it I haven't delved into creating anything yet. I was very busy with other projects. Creating is not always as fun as playing. I feel the learning curve on this game has to be respected. I am still learning. That is why I like it so much. I also like how much content it has. Nothing can match it, You really don't need to create to enjoy this masterpiece you guys have put together. It might be fun to create only because I love games like this. I am intimated by computer programing etc. My first big step that way was with tabletop simulator where I create board games. This game is a lot better then most war games I have been exposed to. Not all of them but like 98%. This is gold. I just want to have fun with this. I don't think something this cool could be created by just one person. I like this as a hobbie to be honest or to as my dad would say Know your self. I can be a bone head, I don't think I'm that stupid :doh: but I make up for it by trying hard and I just really enjoy games like this

Andy and Don words are not enough. Most importantly thanks for hanging in there for another year. I know it's getting harder. The patches go without saying, are a most welcomed addition to start off a new year. I look forward to downloading them!!

This game has a lot of life still in it. Hands down it one of the best out there still!

So I clicked on the SHP Editor to see what all was in that for this update, and it triggered my Malwarebytes which said it was a MachineLearning/Anomalous.95%

Not even sure what that is, so I am letting you guys know. I am also updating the Malwarebytes program and double-checking to make sure it's doing a false positive thing.

It's also always a good idea to digitally sign the files.
I rebuilt SHPEdit the same way it was built last time it was updated and the same way any program for the game is built and none of my anti-virus / malware programs are reacting. I have no idea what "digitally sign the files" means exactly but as I said it was built the same way the last version of SHPEdit was built

I am going to try it again at lunch, I have updated Malwarebytes again and will see. I think it's a false positive error, I have sent them a feedback notice as well as asking them more about the error.

I have just done a full malwarebytes scan on the development PC - with no nasties found. And there are several versions of the game on this computer, so if one of the EXEs was dicey, I would have expected several complaints from MB.

I think you had a false positive there.

And I do. I sent them the data from the quarantine file and they got back pretty quick, it is a false positive. I updated again and things are back to normal.

Just to clarify, these two items are talking about the same thing, correct?

Also, what exactly does this look like because I can't seem to see it when playing scenarios where I transport units.

In regards to 3/ and 11/------- Yes they are and that slipped by everyone's attention until now but yours......Oops

As for point 8 that is not something you would see in a normal game or even a normal scenario. That is only seen in the situation I described where a unit is reported being carried but is sitting on the map somewhere. Inevitably it turns out the "twin" is also in the carrying unit and loading the doppelganger into that transport rejoins them properly. Otherwise, every transport has to be searched for the twin. It's quite rare really but when it happens in a high unit count scenario it's a PITA. We mentioned its addition only in case someone happened to stumble onto a leg unit in an older scenario , in the open but reporting being carried by a vehicle.It will report...

Here's a good example that would be seen in deployment in a scenario.

The unit is loaded and not loaded at the same time. Once the carrying unit is unloaded the doppelganger re-unites with the original unit and that message makes finding where they are much easier

I publish this post for informational purposes only to assist others who may have found difficulties in downloading the 2021 v15 patch. I used the Brave browser, Version 1.28.106 Chromium: 92.0.4515.159 (Official Build) (64-bit) to access the forum. I was unable to download the patch until I accessed the URL via Microsoft Edge.

Perhaps that browser requires one to manually whilelist sites you trust downloading exes from?

Same as some "helpful" email providers refuse to let you send emails with attatched exes, or even zips containing exes? - a total pain in the butt for developers since they provide no way to bypass thier "sickurity". (Workaround for that is to install crypto software like Veracrypt, make an encrypted drive (they call it a container), save files to the container, and then send a copy of the container as an attatchment, with an agreed password).

NB - a veracrypt container is a handy way to store any secure files (personal data, banking, your txt file with passwords etc) on your PC so if some tea-leaf nicks it, its not there to read. Just make a veracrypt container with a decent password, and mount it as a virtual drive when neeeded. The file could be on a USB stick as well, not just on your PC hard drive so you can store that elswhere in yor property. Veracrypt is a continuation of the earlier Truecrypt project apparently.

This is the first I have heard about this browser so I DL'd it and gave it a try. When I tried DLing the patch there was no action and I had to click on "If your download doesn't start automatically click here" at the bottom of the screen and in doing so a window popped up saying I was trying to DL multiple files so I ended that session and started a new one but this time there was no response at all so I tried again and this worked

I right-clicked on "click here" and then " Open link in new window" and that showed

http://download.shrapnelgames.com/do...rade(2021).zip

Then I pressed ENTER and the pop up window to Downloads appeared and from there you can starting downloading with Brave

In 2019 update new command was added to display artillery bombardment on map with # hot key.

Could this fine improvement be expanded in adding new separate commands that show on map height of hexes, terrain density, height of terrain, smoke density?

You already an see those in upper left when you hover, don’t think you need them also on the map as well.

This will help to find advantageous, safe and dangerous positions, where a cover and where an open space, and where good point for observation.
Currently we have to move the mouse across the screen jumping with eyes from hex to info string and back and trying to remember something.

Second reason is indistinguishable slopes under trees and buildings.

Third is that there are incorrect hexes on map which look like flat but actually are higher then adjacent flat hexes so you can not see it until point a mouse on it and check out info string. This appears in scenarios and hand made maps.

Well, spend some time doing a proper terrain analysis by checking out the map fully by mousing over it then?

I dont spend much time on that as the mini-map and main map are fine for me. I cannot see any advantage to putting a shed-load of text on the map that is easily accessible via a mouse-over, whereas the shed load of text would clutter the map and be highly confusing as there would need to be a string on each and every hex on the map. As the text plane is above the units plane, they would be smothered in pixels...

I just tried myself with both the Free DL's and the last patches and had the same result.

This is the first report of it so it's a recent issue and I will alert Shrapnel about it.

I had the same problem myself. For some reason, I couldn't download the game via Chrome, but I managed to do so via Microsoft Edge, so maybe it is a browser based problem.

YOU ARE CORRECT

I use Chrome and had the same problem as Epoletov. I tried Firefox and got a little further but eventually was given a message that the attachment could not be read.

I tried Edge and the DL started and continued for at least 2/3 of it when I canceled the DL .

GUESSING this might be prep by MS for win11 that has created this issue for Chrome and Firefox which is why Edge works but nothing else does so give Edge a try to DL the patches

Tried with firefox and 7zip compressed files manager.

Choosing the "save file" as option (as usually do for remote files) all worked fine.

I also tried the "open file" option which I normally avoid for remote files as that can cause a hiccup with files stored remotely on a third-party server and it also began the download. I cancelled it after a minute or so.

I was trying to download the latest patch (Opera, Windows 10) and the file wouldn't start download. I waited and waited and clicked on "click here if it doesn't start automatically" link. Again it never started. Then I right clicked and save link file as which started the download but stopped at 99%.
After that I tried Firefox and I got a warning message, screenshot attached. The download didn't start and finish till I accepted to allow it. Never seen this message before so...just letting you know that there might be an issue somewhere between your server and my computer. I am sure it's uber helpful. :D

EDIT: And I just checked there are other similar posts here. ok. :doh:

Is there a plan for a new patch this year? I am thinking of starting a new game and if there is definitely going to be a new patch soon I will just postpone it or something.
