Damage Question

My apologies in advance if this question has been asked before, but does anyone know if the damage numbers in the battle replay reflect the actual damage that's being inflicted or if some attacks don't display properly, e.g., charges.

In one of my battle reports (screen-shots below) one of my Mound Kings killed an 11 HP assassin with only 8 points of damage -- or so it appears.

Re: Damage Question

Maybe the hoof attack dmg aint showed.
Maybe he took the -20%HP injury and it was enough to kill him

I replayed the battle a bunch of times while resetting the RNG and the assassin usually died with 11 damage, so I think you might be right about getting the never healing wound affliction.

Thanks.

Re: Damage Question

With the debug logs you can see damage numbers in the text files iirc. Start the game with the -ddd (??) argument. Look for the text file that appears.

Re: Damage Question

If the attacks from hoof and main weapon hit simultaneously and the damage numbers are 3 and 8, the numbers would be superimposed on one another and would seem as one number.

Besides, the mound king has a light lance, which has an AP based damage bonus to first strike, so if that damage bonus is 30% or more, the 8 points of damage alone is enough to whack the assassin.

Re: Damage Question

Great suggestion to read the debug log.

The log output is below. If I'm reading it correctly, it looks like the lance and hoof both did 8 points of damage and were superimposed on each other.

By the way, are there any guides that talk about how to read this log file? What are those "spec" entries and is that "att29" at the top really mean a 29 attack skill?

25195 striking with weapon Light Lance. att29 def14
hitloc Mound King strikes Empoisoner wl4 diff-4 -> 4
hitunit 25195 3673 dmg11 spec-2145386495 ba4

25195 striking with weapon Hoof. att23 def14

There are no guides on how to read the log file. You need to either ask from someone who knows or puzzle it out yourself.

As for the attack question, yes. Total attack value is attack skill + DRN and that is compared to defense value of defense skill + DRN. If attack roll is higher than defense, it's a hit. If attack rolls is higher than defense but lower than defense + shield parry, then it's a shield hit and shield protection applies.

Thanks for the response Edi. I was puzzling it out over the weekend. There's a lot of good (although obscure) information in the log file, although calling it obscure is an understatement. I think it took me an hour to realize "wl4 diff-4" was talking about weapon length differences used for repelling.

And speaking of repelling, I learned that a death bless doesn't work with 1-point repel hits (figured I'd test a tactic while I was at it) and that a Dancing Trident with it's 6-length is pretty good at repelling , but I digress...
