Aran_Dom (SemiRandomized Aran)

For those who want to try SemiRandom maps there is now Aran_Dom.
This is a small zip of only the Aran_Dom.map file which uses the Aran image that comes with Dom3. So it will look familiar but will play very different.
You can download it here... Aran_Dom.zip

Just like the Poke_in_the_Eye map (down below) which is a daily chaotisized version of the Eye map in the game, Aran_Dom will daily SemiRandomize a new version of the Aran map. Each one should be good for a few games. And when you start knowing what and where everything is then just come back to download a fresh version.

SemiRandom is set at 30% of the map
Comments welcome.

Here is also a link to the thread for the Poke_in_the_Eye chaotic map.

Oooh, fancy. This sounds like it'll breathe a fresh air into my SP game/make testing mods a lot more fun! I've always wanted to try Semi-Random, but this makes it super-convenient.

Re: Aran_Dom (SemiRandomized Aran)

Im glad to see so much use of the Aran_Dom map.
Remember that every day a new version is generated so if it starts feeling old, just download it again.

I hope that it generates interest in the SemiRandom program and its project. If you feel that you are playing SemiRand maps so much that the specials that are showing up arent so special anymore then remember that you can create your own. And please, upload them to the project so that everyone can have more specials to make more maps fun to play.

The SemiRand project can be found here.

Also keep in mind that there are SemiRand games available on my server. They can be played Solo, or in Multiplay with up to 4 human players.

You've got it scripted to generate a new one per day? Incredible :).

Re: Aran_Dom (SemiRandomized Aran)

Some maps can have some interesting features but get old with replay. So even though they are maps, they cry out for a daily regeneration which some people seem to prefer not to do on their own machine.

Ive considered picking another of the maps that come with the game and doing a program for a semi version of NI. Instead of No Independents (which there are plenty of and dont need redone) I was thinking of a PI for Partial Independents. It would still have the benefit of forcing the AI into a better playing mode, and cut down on late game micromanagment, but not quite so extremely. If I just blank the poptype for most of the provinces then it will allow the game to still randomly assign types to the few left untouched. Im thinking maybe 1 in 10 provinces as a starting point to test it.

But a PI map would be best if redone once in awhile. If Im lucky, then a totally random choice of which provinces to change will work for it. If not then I might have to build a more involved program to divide the map into large sections then choose one in each section to be allowed a population.

This is pure gold, thanks a lot. Mainly because I'm a mac user and can't be arsed to dual boot windoze just for semirand.

I wish I had the skills to compile a mac binary of it but I don't.
