And now for something completely different...

Blitznoth - Highways and Strongholds - (NO BATTLEMAPS)

--

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.

The zip now includes Late Age - Ermor vs Marignon variant.
Highways & strongholds are owned. This makes for a faster paced early game.

I don't get it. Why not be confused by the province count?

I imagine it means the map feels much smaller, as most of the provinces are of little value, lacking all valuable properties.

It's "do not be deceived" not "do not be confused". You can be confused if you want to be. :D

Calchet hit the nail on the head. Many of the provinces provide little of value to control on their own and yet have some value if large swaths can be grabbed and held. The large stretches of barren plains and the highways can also provide another obstacle to be considered in terms of supply and distance.

This map certainly won't be for everyone. It is the result of an experiment. I have only played a single game on it and found it entertaining, so thought I'd share it. It would have been even more entertaining if the custom battle maps had worked out as I had hoped. Since they did not, I stripped them out.

Curious to see how this map would play out in a 1v1. My single player test game has been enjoyable, but I don't have (reliable) time to try out a multiplayer game myself, so let me know if you have given it a shot. Thoughts? Suggestions welcome.

"large, swaths of land"? Oh bugger, I don't have the energy for it.

I found my 2nd game on the base map becoming tedious, thus the addition of the Marignon vs Ermor version. In my current game on the map (SP), I am early in year 5 and am nearing victory. Of course this is against the AI. Still, I have enjoyed the game.

Just for kicks, I will attach a rough distribution map that I made while playing with map forge:
