MBTs (Take 2)

Just so we have a place to bring up interesting information and discuss MBT issues.

Let's start with a Russian talking about Russian tanks.

Re: MBTs (Take 2)

Assuming that Russian armored brigades will conduct and use their armor exactly as Soviet Cold War Era doctrine dictated could be hazardous to NATO's or other contender's morale. Nothing wrong with 40+ year old tanks as long as they can be put to effective use.

As usual it is a cheaper solution to upgrade 3 old tanks than to buy an untested new model if medium to large stock of old tanks are available.

I find these to be great examples of tank upgrade offers among many others of course:

Well it is not the tanks that are the most dreaded weapon in the Russian arsenal. It is the artillery that is the real hammer.

In the Napoleonic wars, the Russians used 12 gun batteries when most others had 4 or 6 gun batteries. So they were into massed fires even then.

What I found most interesting from that YouTube was his figures on how many of each type was available. Most folks assume the majority of Russian tanks are T90s or T80s, neither of which apparently exist in significant quantities.

Re: MBTs (Take 2)

I believe that one issue was that one of the factories of T-80s was located in Ukraine after the fall of USSR. Same story with the T-64. It is why Ukrainian tanks like the T-84 are based off the T-80 after all.

T-80U is a very good tank. The Cypriots have it and it is the most advanced tank on the island. Well, there are rumors that the Turks brought in Leo-2A4s recently though...

I bet the russians at least have a couple of thousands mothballed T-80s somewhere :house::rus
