Does MP work?

So far no luck with game connecting with another player thru the internet. Anybody else get it to work? I can get a local connection with my other computer, but no internet connection with the world.

Ok, worked with it for a while and could never get a connection with GeneraChaos. We turned off firewalls, removed routers etc. and still no connection.

Later I played a game vs Alejes, so it is wrking, but something is preventing GeneralChaos from connecting.

Re: Does MP work?

Yes, it worked. We both had to bypass our routers, which is normal. We had two crashes, but I think that might have been my fault. I've got satellite internet--lag, lag, lag. That's what I get for living in BFE. Fortunately, the autosave function saved the day. All-in-all, it was far more satisfying playing a skilled opponent like Scottwarr than an AI any day.

Yes, it was a really fun game even though I lost. Definately looking forward to more games vs people.

Well, I think this game stinks in MP. It just won't work(get a connection). I have been playing many games online for 4 years with this computer & same internet connection. And I have NOT had any problem with any other game. Where's PBEM?

Your problem has me stumped. You dont have a router, but the IP the game shows and the IP that www.whatismyip.com shows for you are different,....which would indicate a router. However, I am not an expert. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge could help you,...... I would really like to see more people playing MP.

Well, if you need to be a network ingeneer to play this game over the internet. It is a bad design flaw...

Why cannot it use the UDP plug and play?

I hope the next patch will solve this problem.

Re: Does MP work?

The game gives your internal router adress if you use a router,...which will not work for playing MP. You will need to visit www.whatismyip.com to see what the actual IP you need to use to connect with.

Firewalls have to be disabled or the game allowed to be an exception. Port 1941 needs to be open if you use a router. So far nobody that has claimed they had port 1941 opened has been able to host unless they DMZ'ed their machine on their router settings page. I am not sure if this is because they dont know how to open port 1941 correctly or becasue something other than port 1941 needs opened also. I always DMZ my machine to play oline games, so I never learned how to open individual ports.

I can help you to try and connect if you want. I'll be around later this evening. My AIM is alanbernardo21 and ICQ 4046944.

There is a program out there called "TCP View" which will show what ports a game is using.

In the end, playing a online game using DMZ is a little dangerous: I only use it when the ports fail to work.

Still, saying a game stinks in MP just because you can't connect is a bit odd.
