3.26 patch problem

I have D/L the 3.26 patch and ir says it will D/L it to Program file/Dom3.

I D/l it to desktop (as always so I can save them all in 1 file) and tried to extract it, but to no avail. I tried putting it IN the mods file and that didn't help.

Any ideas, as I can't play any turns it seems until I get it done.

Re: 3.26 patch problem

It SHOULD be a .exe file, so there shouldn't be a need to extract it or anything. In my exp. it automatically detects wherever you have your dom3 folder and you just tell it okay to patch.

WIndows? Mac? Linux?
Which version of which OS?

Since you didnt say, Im guessing Windows. (Windows people tend to not mention which OS they have)
And since you didnt mention which Windows and you are having a problem, Im guessing Vista or maybe Win7?

No..I have Windows XP

And I tried to just D/l it as it had a destination already...no good. It says "invalid directory"

Ummm, can you figure out where exactly you have dominions installed? you should be able to run the patch installer and just point it there.

Re: 3.26 patch problem

It wants to put it in program files Dom 3

As far as I know that is the correct file.

But when I try it it says Invalid Directory

I have no idea what would come next...if it was a map or a mod i would put it in that file, but this is beyond me.

You're not supposed to "put" the patch .exe anywhere, you're just supposed to run it, then make sure its targeting the correct folder.

I don't suppose you could provide a screen shot of each step?

Before you ask how to do that: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+screenshot

Nope, it automatically suggests /Program Files/Dominions3, no matter where the game is installed.

How to find out where dom3 is installed on your machine (on a Windows machine). Instead of left-clicking the shortcut to launch the game (ie no matter wether you have the shortcut on desktop or in the Start menu), right click the short-cut icon and from the pop-up menu select Properties (the line lowest down in the pop-up menu). When the properties open, you will see where dominions is installed (for example it says "D://Games/dom3" on my machine).

Then just launch the patch .exe, click the browse button before extracting, and select the folder you found above.

Ah right, you have the game *properly* installed then :) I have just a copy (of a copy of a copy of a...) the folder from the original computer where I installed the game years ago. I've just copied and pasted the folder to the new computer when I've changed machines or wiped the HD clean (and same thing done for the host machine in the garage). It's cool that the same folder of the game runs both on my W7 desktop and the steam-powered toaster in the garage :D
