Russia OOB New standard rifle

I have read in the book The New World of Russian Small Arms & Ammo by Charlie Cutshaw that the Russian Army had started from 1994 to replace the AK-74 with the new Avtomat Nikonova-94 or AN-94 Assault Rifle.

Not that I know about those OOB things. But AN-94 is used in a very limited number currently. Nevertheless, since this game also projects to the future, I think it will be good to include that rifle (or maybe it's already inside the Russian OOB?)

There is ZERO difference in game terms between an AK-74 and AN-94 Assault Rifle and if you look closely you will see that there aren't many weapons slots left in the Russian OOB and I won't be wasting them on something that the only difference is the name AND, as has been noted, it's in very limited service

What do you mean with ZERO difference?

According the book claims Izmash the manufacturer that the AN-94 has a first-shot hit probability 1,5 to 1,7 times better than the AK-74.
And that Russian sources stated that the overall efficiency of the AN-94 is twice as the AK-74. And 50% greater then the M16.
Also is there a Russian claim that the reliability of the AN-94 has a 150% improvement as AK-74.

And after the Taman Guards Division in Moscow and the Spetsnaz who where all equiped with this assault rifle. I think that the VDV and the Naval Infantry also are are equiped with this assault rifle

Do any of those claims warrant different game stats than the current rifles use?

if that's the case it could unbalance the game, m16a4's have better accuracy than generic rifles though. but it might be like that in real life, i don't know, never fired anything other than light hunting rifles

I said there is zero difference in game terms becasue there is zero difference in game terms despite Russian claims to the contrary. The only point you've made was, if anything, that we've been over rating the AK series but anyone who's ever fired both already knows that.

All small calibre assault rifles in the game are treated equally no matter if it's an AK-47 or an AK-74 or an M16 or a G36 becasue at this scale the differences that do exist do not matter. Had that weapon been equipped normally with an optical sight there would have been a reason to at least consider adding it even though it is still quite rare but that is not the case and it will not be added.

What a weapons manufacturer claims and what is combat reality are two different things. In addition, any claims made are based on ideal test conditions that do not account for the marksmanship, or lack thereof, of the individual soldier, nor the degrading of accuracy as a result of combat, i.e. being shot at. In the end, in a game where the basic unit is the squad, the claimed stats for the AN-94 would make no difference for .

From what I recall, but small arms is not my field, one of the main selling points is supposed to be the special two rounds burst mode which makes possible to hit close where the first round impacted: the second round is fired so quickly after the first that recoil etc do not affect it too much. This is supposed to help to pierce body armor, as the ballistic plates do not stand up well to cumulative damage.
It however is pretty expensive and complex design, which makes general issue not feasible.
They presented an AK-200 last year: supposedly an AK-74M with fittings for optical sights and such.Some believe it has balanced action as in the AK-107, with improved accuracy.
This would likely make a better candidate for general issue.

However in the game all these issue are pretty academic.

The decision to replace existing rifles with the An-94 broadly was also basically put on hold primarily because of the cost. The An-94 was also found to be more finicky because of the overly complex receiver arrangement to allow for the super-fast burst. Even if they Russians do field it in any numbers it will be well after the WinSPMBT timeline ends.

Also, +1 to having no actual effect on gameplay.
