Night vision
 
When the scenario visibility is low, say 1-2 hexes, can some units 'see' farther than that like they can see through smoke? I've tried to set up a test but I'm never sure if units are actually in the field of vision when I look.

Yes. A unit's "vision" number is the number of hexes that unit can see (if the visibility is lower). ie if visibility is 3 and my unit has vision 10 they can "see" 10 hexes. 40+ is Thermal Imaging and can also see through smoke.

From the Mobhack guide:

Vision/TI/GSR - numbers over 0 are night fighting vision devices. Approximately 20 for most vehicle IR searchlights, 30 for Image Intensifiers or LLTV systems, Infantry systems tend to be in the 10 to 15 range. Values of 40 or more have the special ability to look through smoke - units with 40 plus vision have Thermal Imaging (TI) sights, ranges of 50 or so on represent Ground Surveillance Radars (GSR). Label changes and colour changes if TI vision is granted.

Thanks. I guess I'm just never in the right place at the right time! :)

Would that mean that units with 40+ could 'see' that far even if visibility was 25?

Yes, units can "see" as far as their vision rating or the actual visibility whichever is highest. Of course being able to see that far and spot things there are two very different things! :p
