Unpurchaseable Spanish Formations
 

I've found some coastal defense units that are unpurchaseable in both the Nationalist Spain and Republican Spain OOBs. For both nations they are units that belong to the "Costera Defensa" formation (Formation 399 for Republican Spain and Formation 405 for Nationalist Spain. The issue seems to be they are set to be Formation Type 4 (Naval). They do not show up in the formation purchase screen during a defend mission even when it is set to a beach. I looked at other OOBs and found that Italy also has coastal defense formations, however that formation (365) is set to 1 (Platoon) and they will show up in the purchase screen during a defend mission. Using Italy's coastal defense formation as a template I edited the unpurchaseable formations to belong to Type 1 and they now show up during defense missions for anyone interested in using these units. You'll see them under the Misc. Units screen, directly beneath the "Fortin" formation.

Right before posting this I have also noticed that Republican Spain has another unpurchaseable formation "Guardacosta" (Formation 154) set to Formation Type 4. Once again setting it to Type 1 makes it purchasable.

Is Formation Type 4 only meant for off-map naval artillery?

An artillery type formation of type 4 is a naval bombardment unit for the assaulter in a beach assault - he gets those listed instead of field artillery. Defender sees field artillery as usual and will not be offered any naval artillery. So those "Guarda costa" creations are useless, and have been since the NSDOB days I superpose, so you are probably the first person since then to notice. The original creator obviously did not test his edits".

However, changing the formation type to the dame as for regular fortification may then cause the naval forts to come up in normal assaults...

If building a scenario, but fortifications and then change to one of the naval forts in the Editor. But for generated battles, I would stick to normal forts. The cure probably will be to change the formation type and put an X3 radio code on these things.
