Newb question about Arcology ?
 

I am playing proportions and have managed to get tech Arcology but it isn't an upgrade you have to build it from scratch can anyone tell me how to change this ?

Thanks, sorry if this has been asked before but I tried searching and couldn't find the answer.

Change its family number to be the same as a facility that you want it to be upgradeable from.

Search for .../proportions/data/facility.txt, open it, in the beginning of the txt you find the families legend:
...
54 - Cultural Centers
...
61 - City through Megalopolis
62 - Arcology

Search the txt file for the 2nd entry of Arcology:
(there are 2 entries, the first one is inaccessible tech)

NOT this one:

Name := Arcology
Description := An enormous vertical...
Facility Group := Cultural
Facility Family := 58
...

Change the next one:

Name := Arcology
Description := An enormous vertical...
Facility Group := Cultural
Facility Family := 62 -> 61

PvK specifically made Arcology as a separate group from cities-metropolicies to remove upgrade shortcut. Also because Archology has extra abilities compared to smaller cities. Of course, you are free to change it anyway you like for your games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
