Well some of them hold off things like the UI to add that to the commercial version.

But even without that; CDs of public domain images sell, CDs of Linux sell, CDs of add-ons and mod collections...

yes, but open source doesnt mean it cant be sold :)

You could always open a project on SourgeForge.net and ask for programmers, artists, sound people, etc. Then when it gets to a working apha we could talk to Shrapnel about marketing it.
