I am pretty much not sure what can I do. I doubt very badly if we are able to withstand yet another such attack.

For now, I believe it will be best to abandon Les Ataques and shift about 1 click...

Nah, just mentioning my experiences. I got under fire at positions that should be out of any particular interest. Normally it is bearable... unless you are truck/wagon based...

About artillery: AI has "magic eye" when comes to artillery. They will target your units even if they do not...
