Yes, that's why. There's an uncommon site with recruitable trolls (http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Troll_Pit). I believe that there's one that lets you recruit Troll Kings too, but I don't recall...

This may or may not be the cause in this specific circumstance, but I have had cases in the past where having a different version of a mod than the one the server is using causes the replay bug.

Yipes, I apologize again. I hate them too, but unplayable turns are just about the only reason I'd ever re-host.

It's unfortunate I didn't try the resend thing. Are corrupt turns a common thing...
