Re: Making Single Player more Exciting

I'd like that mod, Ironhawk. As a human it's trivial to consider such thugs "off-limits" but the AI should have fun with it.

Unlike a real thug, I presume, you can't loot items off the bodies...

Re: Making Single Player more Exciting

Inspired by Baalz' recent guide on Niefelheim, I just added superskrattir as a recruitable unit for Niefelheim and its descendants.

Re: Niefelheim - Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

Alternately, all this to get Skratti who can use cheap shrouds instead of Hydra Skin Armor (which you yourself suggest as the "best" armor for Skrattis), or who are about as lethal as the Blood Thorn...

Re: Favorite Pretender Names

Yes, but wasn't that because Gandalf had a pretender named Apples? So, intimidating to *someone*.

Re: Niefelheim - Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

Wow. I had not realized how amazing Blood Thorns on a high-strength unit can be--that's as good as Soul Vortex. In a quick test game, I had a Skratti whom I forgot to set to "attack," so he cast a...

Re: Niefelheim - Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

Is Relief better than the manual makes it sound? Reinvig 1 is pretty pointless.

Re: Niefelheim - Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?

I didn't think oldage was affected by province scales, only by national scales.

Re: Did you know that? (Dominions trivia)

I was really surprised that it seemed to cause two afflictions. Maybe it's a bug, or maybe there really were two arrows and I'm just not seeing the second one--or maybe it's just an obscure case of...

Re: Tactics (against communions)

Gifts From Heaven is not mundane, but yes, Fog Warriors will prevent the first one from doing more than 1 point of damage, and with its low Prec it may not hit twice. I've got to second the idea of...

Re: If Giants existed in BC times...

I don't understand. How is SoC different from just giving them a high base morale, and why would that make their morale go up? (I suppose it might affect the "average" morale of their squad, but...

Re: A Few (Really) Good Men: Guide to Ashdod

Yeah, that does sound rather ideal. Ashdod can do it with normal spearmen out of any fort, though, so isn't reliant on finding wolf tribe warriors in the right fort.

P.S. I would refer to...

Re: Did you know that? (Dominions trivia)

It was an arrow. Someone in that battle had a Bow of War, but there weren't any Bows of Botulf that I could see. Also, I only saw one arrow incoming, so I don't think it's two 4's superimposed. He...

Re: Jomon Analysis: 3.21

The bad part is, I get egg on my face. The good part is, I can now start forging hammers much earlier. I've believed them to be Const-4 ever since I started playing the game; it's the first thing I...

Re: Did you know that? (Dominions trivia)

...it is possible to get two afflictions off the same wound? I just had a priest get Never-healing Wound and Feebleminded off of one little red "4".

Hammers are Const-4, at least in vanilla.

Re: First Post: Introduction and Request For Help Getting Up To Speed

[baffled look] I don't know how to parse this. On the internet, there is no proof aside from peoples' claims. On your own machine,...

What are your favorite pretender names and titles?

Here's two that I like.

Tubal-Cain, Maker of Weapons: King of Nature, King of Might, King of Kings, the Teacher of Philosophy.

Balor, the...

Re: A Few (Really) Good Men: Guide to Ashdod

Potential use for chaffy human troops:

If you need to defend a position from an elite enemy army and sacreds aren't appropriate (maybe they're Ulmish Guardians, or the enemy has too many mages),...

Re: Jomon Analysis: 3.21

Concur. Later nations like Hinnom and Ashdod with *linked* randoms are much more usable IMO than totally scattered randoms. One way to boost Jomon would be to link the randoms on the Onmoyis and...

Re: New patch soon?

:) I play vanilla. Well, plus some random houserules to boost boring units (vampires are ethereal, for instance--which makes vampire attack events really fun ;) ).

Re: Helheim - lets burn some rubber

Hmmm. S1 will get you site-searching, but it's really no better than you get from a lizard shaman. IMO you need S3 at minimum in order to really consider yourself to have opened up Astral, which...

Re: First Post: Introduction and Request For Help Getting Up To Speed

For recruitment, it's sometimes useful to pay in advance for troops that cost a lot of resources, as opposed to gold. Just come back and collect them once every few turns. For ritual spells, use the...
