You can go back, you just have to Quit SEIV and restart the game. As long as I do that EVERYTIME I load a game, I do not get the error. I only get the error if I load a game...

Yes I mailed it to MM, and the only time I ever experienced this bug was with 1.35. I am just glad I figured it out, for I am finally enjoying a game after two weeks of frustration.
