The mine laying problem could have been due to your DN minelayer trying to launch 79456 mines in one turn....This is a little outside the unsigned int limit of 65,536.

In naval terms a freighter requires far fewer people to crew it and has limited (if any) redundancy of systems.

A warship requires lots of people to crew it and the capacity to take damage and...

Warp gates could be coded as a combination of Warp point maker / destroyer in one component.
New tech field Spacial manipulation with 5 or 6 levels each leading to a larger component and longer...

It would be nice to have to hunt for warp points, like Starfire.
Some kind of survey type sensor / Xr component for ships to allow scanning for warp points / planets within one square?
