Re: Patch doesn't recognize v3.23?

Are you saying that you are certain that the patcher supports v3.23?

If that is true it sounds like I have something on my system which is changing the checksum of binaries. But before I take...

Patch doesn't recognize v3.23?

I haven't played Dom3 in a long time, but I wanted to give the latest CBM a spin. To do this I (think) needed to patch to a current version of Dom3. I'm on v3.23 and the patcher does not recognize...

Re: Alchemists Stone

Due to the increase in gold produced by provinces in Dom3 alchemy is simply not used anymore.

The base ratios for alchemy should probably be bumped by x2 to get them back into line with Dom2 and...

Re: Niefelheim Pretender Design Question

Yes, that is why you go for the bless. You can make very cheap thugs, a minor astral bless can be worthwhile as well, although in most cases it will only yield +1 MR.

With Robe of the battle saint...

Re: Niefelheim Pretender Design Question

And what armor do you want to put on them? Well if you have 9E6N or 9E8N robe of the battle saint is the most efficient.

9E6N or 9E8N works great on their Jarls, it works great on their troops, it...

Re: Official release of the unofficial Dominions 3 Wiki

Well done on the Wiki, it is really great and I am sure that it will become even better over time.

Also, that AAR is amazing, a true tour-de-force. I can not imagine how many hours went into it.

Re: Fire vs. Death heavy bless

This is the correct answer. The +4 to attack means that your sacred units hit far more often which greatly increases the average damage per attack.

Re: Conceptual Balance Mod 1.5

Don't forget that the x2 is after weapon damage+str (at least it was in Dom2). When a unit gets hit by a x2 or x3 damage weapon by any type of thugish unit it is generally toast.

Re: OW's Guide to MA Pythium: Marx and Angels' Communion Manifesto

A few points, some have been mentioned:

1. The Lord of Rebirth is just about the perfect pretender for Pythium. You are missing the following magic paths: Earth, death, nature, blood. The Lord of...

Re: Need opinions on MA Nation power

I have to agree with this final point. Although the sample size is not that large it does suggest that Pythium is still quite powerful (I would have expected Arco, Jotun, and Marignon, and Ashdod to...

Re: Need opinions on MA Nation power

You seem to be cherry picking here, and over stating the effect of some of the boosts Pythium has gotten.

1. The really useful angelic summons were already in Dom2 (although I do not recall if...

Re: Need opinions on MA Nation power

I don't understand the love for Pythium.

Their infantry is solid: good morale, decent weapons, nice shield, decent training. This has not changed from Dom2 where Pythium was a real power.

What...

Re: Communicants

I also tried to summon them in combat and they did not work correctly there either. Pity. Sounded comical.

Although ... they do make comical units if you buff them up a little (give them a...

Re: Communicants

I just tried modding them to units. Here were the (comical) results:

1. Communicant units did get buffs of the communion masters
2. Communicant units acted as if they did not cast communion slave...

Re: Conceptual Balance Mod 1.41

Sure devils see a lot of play at full price, but where do those units come from? Usually from the higher levels spells: ritual of the five gates, the level 9 spells, and soul contracts. I think that...

Re: Communicants

In Dom2 the castle type your nation built was selected during pretender construction. Most people selected 300 gold castles. So, generally, in Dom2 castle turns were much less valuable.

Now...

Re: Communicants

I just hate the micromanagement of communicants. Not to mention that recruiting them takes a lot of castle turns. This is a pretty significant change from Dom2.

Now this would not be thematic, but...

Communicants

Is it possible to mod a unit which has the abilities of a communicant (ie: casts communion slave at the start of battle) but yet is not a unit?

Re: Blood Hunting as MA Abyssia?

I wish demonbred were recruitable at every fort. MA Abysia has such poor options for mages outside of its capital.

I suppose a low level blood spell to summon Demonbred for Abysia would be more...

Quite right, I was going by memory how much a 5k population province yield, and since I generally have good scales it comes out around 70 (maybe a touch less). You are totally correct that scales...

Re: Cost efficient blood hunting

This is actually the most important point about bloodhunting in Dom3 and is one of the big changes in bloodhunting from Dom2.

The increase in gold/province is a large boost (relative) to less...

Re: Dealing with an early N9 E9 Niefel Giant rush

You need a good set of D3 mages. This means, generally, C'tis. A few other nations can do it, but they usually require capitol only mages. As for how many mages, about 1 mage per 10-15-ish human...
