Planet names are always named after the system name.
So for Quetzal II the system name should be Quetzal.
Usually trade routes should be within 2-3 warps from the starting system, so if you don't...

Press [CTRL] + [L].
You should see many colored "star-paths" that guide you to the inhabited planets.
If you keep going on those lanes pirates will not attack you.

They take up too much hull space and don't offer so much advantage in battle.

You could mount a Tachyon Cannon (shield piercing) to immediately damage...

I was wandering if Capital Ship Missiles and Torpedos (Quantum, Plasma, etc...) have the same speed or not.

If they have, the Plasma Torpedo would be the best seeking weapon in the game.
