Re: AI and stellar manipulation

The AI uses most Stellar Manipulation abilities. They do planet busting/creation, storm destruction, nebulae destruction, star destruction, and possibly star creation (not certain on this one...

Re: Ablative Armor

Yes, I was thinking of reactive armor, my mistake.

Re: Ablative Armor

Not quite, as I said, ablative armor *destroys itself* to reduce or prevent damage to it's vehicle. That is not the same as a regular armor plate that takes damage until it is destroyed. It is not...

Re: Ablative Armor

Yes and no, ablative armor on, for example, a main battle tank, is not going to be destroyed by everything that hits it, if that were the case small-arms fire would be the bane of every armored tank....

Re: Ablative Armor

Strictly speaking, the stock emissive armor is ablative armor.

Re: Weapon adjustments

True, they do send ships off for repair, however they don't research repair until very late (in the stock AI files). Repairing multiple ships at a rate of 3-5 components per turn, puts them at a...

Re: Weapon adjustments

Sure, no problem. I mostly leave the mounts alone, mainly because the adjustments I've made are balanced for the stock weapon mounts. I did add in the neo-standard ships though.

Re: Weapon adjustments

Well, the armor only regens after combat, the regen ability I put on it is minimal. Plus, while a human would have the sense to include one or more repair ships to repair armor, the AI isn't quite...

Re: Weapon adjustments

Personally, I've made quite a few adjustments to make things more balanced, especially since the APB was the only weapon that made real sense.

Some of my many adjustments:

-Shields naturally...

Re: OT: Let\'s gripe about the weather

Amusingly enough, we got rain and a high of 12C, while Ont and Que got dumped on. Rather odd but still amusing since it's usually the other way around.

Re: An \"Armor\" component based on ST: Voyager

This is basicly the same as stock organic armor. The main drawback, as with organic, is that armor regen is 'all or nothing'. Until enough regen ability is amassed to restore an armor component,...

Re: What to research first when playing the AI?

There is no real cut and dried answer to that, it depends on your play-style, and to a degree your game settings.

Personally I usually start with 3 planets and rush for mines, computers II,...

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

My point was that gameplay matters more than what he chooses to name the next version (assuming he even makes one). Are you offensive on purpose or is it just a natural gift?

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

As long as the game is as fun, or more fun, than SE4 (since SE5 is not very fun, in my opinion), he could call it 'Revenge of the Bananas' for all I care..

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

It was never released because the publisher (iirc Empire Interactive) decided it wanted to switch focus to sports games.

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

In the last week I've played Stars! (I love that mystery trader), Moo2 and SE4. On the other hand I'll install/fire-up SE5 once every 3-4 months just to see if it's fun yet. I really REALLY wish...

Re: OT: Need help with renaming files in XP

I highly recommend the Bulk Rename Utility. A command line version also exists, if you prefer that method.

Re: Widescreen Monitor Questions Concerning Games

LCD's look best at their native resolution, which in this case is 1680x1050. It's usually less noticible with graphics, but text will usually look especially bad.

On a side note, are you sure it's...

Re: Advanced Quadrants BETA

Looks I might have to go to 1.95 for this. One of the fixes in 1.95 fixes a crash that occurs if there are more than 300 system types.

Re: Advanced Quadrants BETA

I unzipped it into my SE4 directory, I'm using 1.91 Gold, also using the mod picker to launch mods.
