Re: Screensaver Request

It's definitely not abandoned. I saw a fairly recent post from Fingers (late June) talking about prioritizing what he works on. He spent 6 months serving in the Finnish army, so I think that slowed...

Re: I absolutely *&^%$#@! HATE Esmerelda

I agree completely. Hate her. HATE her.

If you make that mod, I predict massive downloading.

Re: Screensaver Request

Nihilix and I (and I think pretty much all of the Fearless Testers) asked for that repeatedly during development. I think it's the single most-requested feature, in fact.

If wishes were horses...

Re: Auto-Navigation?

I think the game is helping you out a bit in that instance. If it did target the nearest star, you'd get partway there, discover the black hole, and then be stuck in an endless loop with the only...

Re: Why no stats?

That there would be one of the devs talking, so I think it's safe to conclude that yes, it's a deliberate choice.

Re: Why no stats?

Kind of.

Another Fearless Tester chiming it.

It is a deliberate decision. I asked for more numbers, or at least more indications of relative strength, multiple times during the early testing...

Re: Relative Merits of Ship/Mission Types

The point values and distribution of items slightly favor the Military mission. During the beta test, I ran numbers on it a couple of times. The Frigate gets high value for the weapons and systems...

Re: Passengers

You don't want to sell your passengers -- they're worth points in your final score, and don't take up cargo space. Unless you have plenty of open space and can get really nice (4-coin or more) stuff...

Re: Why can\'t my computer handle WW?

256MB of RAM is way low for running WindowsXP. Do you get reasonable performance in other games?

Re: The Flea Riding the Tiger (Zorg and Kawangi)

The Temporal Flux shield will regen if breached, but only a point (or so). Otherwise it does not regen at all. Thus the best choice for the Cloaked Bloodfang is the Meson Lattice Shield.

Re: Tablet PC?

I did some beta testing on a tablet (HP TC1100) and found it hard to use just the stylus to play. I will try the demo and full version on the tablet again to see if I can reproduce the issue. This...

Re: Favorite trick in the game (spoilers possible)

The Zorg Fridate's third weapon is the Antichronon Pulse Blaster. It's in a rear-facing hardpoint, so you won't see it fire unless you are engaging them from the rear. It has a huge firing arc,...

Re: When exploring black holes for points..

Rocky, I think it rolls randomly each time. I did a fair amount of testing, and that's the conclusion I came to -- I did not find a pattern in the emergences. If you have the hyperdrive or Zorg...

Re: Point defense, fighter defense, fighter weapon

Yes. pdef = point defense, fter = fighters, caps = capital ships (everything above fighter size.

Re: Custom ship in the intro battle

Fingers provides much detail on this in the Modmaker's Guide to the Galaxy:

Re: When exploring black holes for points..

And try really hard to remember to double-check before you go jumping in to make sure that it really is installed, in case that Anti-Graviton Shunt was actually in the *last* game, not this one...

Re: Fighters: a stardrive speed liability?

The stardrive hardpoints are cosmetic, not functional. As Nihilix points out, it's based entirely on the size of the ship.

Re: Something wrong with CPU usage?

It does pose a bit of a challenge when testing, though. Alt-tabbing between the desktop (or Firefox or Textpad) and WW causes my system to chug. And I'm sportin' some pretty good hardware -- Athlon64...

Re: Point defense, fighter defense, fighter weapon

IIRC, the Gatling Laser is also good for point defense.

The Micrometeorite Gun is good for taking on fighters -- the spread of the shot makes it easier to hit moving targets.

My favorite...

Re: The Patch!

I usually just fire right in front of the enemy ship, but I agree that adding a FIRE command to the enemy ship menu would be nice.

Re: Klakar Trader

They do die pretty fast when attacked by fighter groups, but then again, so does most anything else. They do have a Meson Lattice Shield, which is pretty darn good, so they will last for a little...

Re: Tan Ru Diplomacy

There is the gong-and-retreat option, which is cheesetastic, assuming you have the Gong and a fast travel device (Hyperdrive or Zorg Helmsman).

I do like the Tan Ru being the one race that is...
