From what I hear, it was a massive TOT barrage of an unobserved crossing - i.e. an engineer surveyed it; noticed it was a great spot to cross; and told nearby scouts to call if they heard noises.

Another thing that needs to be looked at is the ammo density for some Russian stuff -- look at the BMP-3/BMP-4 and BMD-3/BMD-4.

They have about 35-40 x 100mm rounds plus 500-600 30mm rounds.

Russian tanks are very dense and compact -- there's not a lot of room for an incoming round to go that doesn't hit something important.

It's worth noting that the carousel autoloader on the T-64...

Note how they put the cursor near the Ka-52, but keep it off the helo until about 3 seconds before impact, to avoid setting off...

APS can't work if APS isn't installed.

To this date, there is one (1) confirmed Russian tank with Hard-APS (aka projectiles hitting incoming munitions) destroyed (the lone T-80UM prototype).

This explains why no EW war in Ukraine -- the Russians need commercial 3G/4G bandwidth to run the ERA cryptophones.

There are some issues with this.

1.) I don't know what criteria NASA uses to consider a FIRS "cell" on fire.

2.) Artillery/air strike generated fires may be more likely to trip FIRS than tank...
