Re: Fictional/What If/Parts Bin Units

Your M1A3 sounds like the specs for the new FCS. They're still debating 120mm vs. 140mm as far as I know, but they'll incorporate the 40mm AGL and advanced armor. Cool

The Ranger Squad SR sounds...

Re: The Merkava 4 MBT

Yes the turret could move, but they limited the movement to a 20-30 degree angle or so. It was a neat trick, I was suprised to see it done. As far as I knew, the Army had not been practicing that...

Re: The Merkava 4 MBT

FYI to all......

The US Army brought back infantry on tank tactics for Iraqi Freedom. A brigade of 101st troopers were attached to the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Division. During the assault...

Re: Problems with air launched weapons.

Loktarr is right. Cluster bombs and MLRS are most effective against unarmored targets. IRL MLRS is used against artillery, especially towed tubes.

Plasma makes a good point about the Maverick,...

Re: The Merkava 4 MBT

I just read over the website you forwarded, Plasma. The Merkava 4 does have a crew of 4, and it does have what I'd call a "semi-auto" loader. Each round is protected in it's own blast-proof box. ...

Re: Iraq- Post War US Occupied

Plasma,

You can rest assured that the insurgents don't have AFV's. I wish that they did, because nothing would scream hey, [censored] here, destroy me with a 500 pound LGB please, like the...

Starmyth,

noooooooo. sorry I don't have the time for that. As usual my friends loktarr and plasmakrab seem to be 'over engineering' a test. ...

Re: Anti air umbrella in middle east

The Egyptians didn't have to catch onto anything. When they decided to resume the offensive, their armor forces went outside their SAM coverage. Israeli pilots could hunt advancing Egyptian armor...

Re: Anti air umbrella in middle east

SAMs were able to deny Israeli air superiority in the first couple days. Note this is not the same as having air superiority themselves, the sky was a no-man's land. There are two different reasons...

Re: Country Training

loktarr you are right about Royal Marines. They are a brigade size (they call themselves a Regiment) force. I am a former US Marine and let me assure you it's hard to admit it, but the RMs are...

Re: Artillery response times

@ Plasma:

I think the game does arty just fine. JaM said it, a little experience overcomes some simple difficulties. I was just curious about response times IRL.

Re: About Tactics when assaulting prepared positio

Punch the hole using Arty, mass engineers to clear mines. I do it all the time.

I don't prefer helo / air drop because Helo's are too vulnerable to hand held SAMs and the fact that 15-20% of...

Re: Interesting Site: Wheeled vs. Tracked AFV (US

I thought the Clancy question about his reliability was along the lines of, "he's does his homework, but he's a fiction writer." I wanted to clarify that Clancy does write nonfiction.

As far as...

Re: Interesting Site: Wheeled vs. Tracked AFV (US
