For Mephisto: I made the installation one first time in the default SE4 directory and a second time in a separated directory without the SE4 executable, in both case the program worked fine....

I can confirm that the Mephisto's suggestion works, the patch installer accept to upgrade a fresh Version 1.60 without any change and after it is possible to bring back changes if you save and store...

Gold Patch installing problem

The patch installer program tell me that my Version of Space Empire Gold is not correct and it does not install the patch, AFAIK there is only one Gold Version 1.60, any hint?
