Re: Steam Sale Dom3 players might like.

Thanks for the clarification on M&B's activation system (which puts it on a parallel with Stardock's) - however it does still pose a real risk for purchasers, as there is realistically no chance of...

Re: Steam Sale Dom3 players might like.

Why not? There's plenty of precedence for changing contracts and charging regular fees (certain credit cards being a clear example) and Section 2-209 of the Uniform Commercial Code...

Re: Steam Sale Dom3 players might like.

Hmm...Steam claim to have 25 million active accounts. A $5 monthly fee (half of what World of Warcraft charges) could bring in an extra $1,200,000,000/year (assuming an 80% takeup rate) for virtually...

Re: Steam Sale Dom3 players might like.

I purchased this about a year ago, found out it required online activation (*without* making it clear on the packaging) and sent it back. It's bad enough having to deal with CD checks or cardboard...

Re: IGN: Elemental: War Of Magic - Preview

No multiplayer, no map editor. It's a single-player game with fixed maps/quests which are randomly populated with opponents and treasure - rather like a real-time version of Heroes of Might and Magic...

Re: IGN: Elemental: War Of Magic - Preview

Me too (with regards to online activation being sneaked in with GalCiv2 patches). Having 2D/3D map options built-in seems a nice feature though.

Other alternatives to consider could be the Age of...

Re: Dom3 Community Screen Resolutions

Flybook: 1024 x 600
Desktop: 2048 x 1536 (only because Dom3 won't offer 2560 x 1600 - bah).

Re: Possible User Interface Improvements

Thanks for the info - but while a little easier, you still need to note the selected province number, then type it before zooming.

Just having a command to centre the map on a selected province...

Re: Possible User Interface Improvements

Doesn't work well. If you zoom out, select a province and zoom in again, the zoom won't centre on that province (resulting in it going off-screen most of the time). Yes, you can use arrow keys but it...

Possible User Interface Improvements

While managing small dominions is fairly painless, there are a few issues with larger ones that could be eased with some small but significant UI changes. While I understand that future updates to...

Re: Wish-List for Dominions 4

Imperfect control could certainly be implemented with a tactical system (and is currently present in part with the rout rules). I would certainly like the option of being able to play out individual...

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

Interesting piece of nostalgia - but come on, 13 years can hardly be described as "fairly new"!

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

True. People should review the details and decide for themselves. The "no harmful software" removal seems hard to justify though.New? The first release of Windowblinds was over 10 years ago. What...

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

As this Authorization Servers (http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=1680) article notes, if a company fails, it is the creditors that dispose of its assets. It is unlikely that anyone, even...

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

An interesting read - thanks for posting it! However I do think it reinforces the point made above in that none of Looking Glass's problems were known to their customers - and the initial commentary...

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

Mm, quite a statement to make. Have you access to Stardock's accounts to back this up? If not, I would suggest such confidence to be misplaced. The most successful companies in the games industry can...

Re: Why Not Digitial Distribution?

This, to me, is an outstanding (and sadly, all too rare) sentiment to express. Sir, I salute you. Now if I could just develop a greater liking for hardcore wargames, I might purchase a few more items...

Re: Can you buy Dominions 3 online for download?

However with CDs, their longevity is something under your control (i.e. if you lose it, you can justifiably kick yourself).

With the current crop of online services (Steam, Impulse, GamersGate,...

Re: Balance Mod

One problem I'm seeing with BM is the AI building Fighter Bombers with no weapons - just lots of armour. Since they then run away from any combat, chasing them down becomes a bit of a hassle....
