Re: Two quick questions

"mymallocs" perhaps? Those of us who write C code often end up wrapping the standard "malloc" routine or writing our own, depending on our needs. Probably this is JK's custom version of malloc....

Re: What Makes a Good Hero?

Thank you all for the feedback. I really like some of the ideas that are being floated about.

For the initial release of the mod, my approach is going to be fairly conservative and I am avoiding...

Re: What Makes a Good Hero?

Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts.

I detected some recurring themes in the responses, such as mage heroes who provide a magic path that is unnatural for a nation. I will try to follow...

Re: Wesnoth (60 provinces)

It seems that only 3 of the white pixels were missing, so it wasn't that big of problem. I changed the borders to a dark green and applied a smoothing effect on them. I also changed the default map...

Re: OT - Strategy games with GOOD AI

I have to agree with those who are recommending computer chess, even if it was tongue-in-cheek. As Agema has mentioned, games with simpler sets of rules can generally get deeper-thinking AIs...

Re: Wesnoth (60 provinces)

I also like the map, but have to agree with you about the borders. If it doesn't make the zip file too much larger, could you add your XCF file to it? If it still has a borders layer, maybe someone...

Re: What Makes a Good Hero?

AFAIK, you can't control the rarity of particular hero events. In one of the "heroes" threads that I read, someone suggested that there seemed to be a preference for certain kinds of heroes given...

Re: What Makes a Good Hero?

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Definitely agreed.

Agreed - I've been following the modding manual's advice on that.

What Makes a Good Hero?

I've been working on developing a mod, and am finally ready to make some heroes. The plan is to try to make some heroes which are not overpowered, but not boring or worthless either. Basically, I'm...

Re: So Have We Gotten Any Info

With silver closing at around US$14 per ounce today, that might push Sombre's estimate of the game price to be closer to Krol's quote, depending on how many ounces of silver are in a silver piece.

Re: Warhammer Nation: Bretonnia, Knights of the Grail v.0.6

 Hit the nail right on the head there.
Gamleplay wise, it also allows me to restrict the guys who can lead them. +thematicness!

Fair enough. I had actually overlooked the fact that...

Re: Warhammer Nation: Bretonnia, Knights of the Grail v.0.6

Just had a chance to fire up the mod, and it looks really good.

I did notice a couple of minor things:
(1) "outrider" not capitalized in name of Yeoman Outrider.
(2) The Duke is a magic being....

Re: MA Bretonnia: Compulsory hype/brainstorming thread.

Well, I have an opinion, but it's probably not worth much since I unfortunately know almost nothing about Warhammer. I would prefer to see the Dom 3 tie-in along the Maverni lines you suggested; it...

Re: MA Bretonnia: Compulsory hype/brainstorming thread.

You're doing a fantastic job with the artwork, Burnsaber.

I do have a question about your Peasant Bowman: is he going to be a longbowman? From the graphic, he looks closer to a regular archer....

Re: Survival

You might want to place the updated attachment in the first post (which you should still be able to edit). It's more likely to get downloaded there than from a post part of the way through the thread.

Re: MA Bretonnia: Compulsory hype/brainstorming thread.

If the Holy Grail and the Chalice are considered one and the same, then there isn't a conflict as far as I'm concerned. It seems that in some definitions a grail can be considered a chalice, but in...

Re: MA Bretonnia: Compulsory hype/brainstorming thread.

I like the mod idea.

I really can't comment from a Warhammer perspective, but from an Arthurian legend perspective, here are a couple of thoughts:
(1) What about Merlin or his equivalent? :-)...

Re: new linux user having probs w/ dominions

Just to help clear up any confusion, ATI's proprietary drivers are generally called fglrx and there are a couple of open source ones that ship with Xorg, radeon generally being the one you would want...

Re: OT: A Song Of Fire And Ice PC Game

I thought Arya was the ugly one and her older sister, Sansa, was the little hottie (who the ultra-scheming Petyr is probably looking to marry once he gets his checkers all lined up just right).

Re: Horror Seed on Immortal commanders

I abhorror such a thought.

But, I've heard that talking to them helps them grow - one needs not be a great horrorator to be effective.

Re: Working underwater without gills

In terms of equipment, I find that Wave Breakers (auto Friendly Currents, water breathing on wielder, respectable weapon, Con 4) are a worthwhile investment, especially if you're fielding poor...
