This thread reminds me of a favorite Beetle Bailey cartoon:
General Halftrack walks around, shouting "Colonel! ... Major! ... Lieutenant ... Sergent! ..."
As he stomps away angrily, we see next door the permanant Private Beetle Bailey lounging on a bench musing aloud:
