I was told by so called computer gurus, that even if your comp was turned off, as long as it was plugged in, a hacker could find a way to access your system espeically if he new or found your IPS

It may be possible for people to discover your IP address, but they could still not hack into your computer while it is off. And if you are behind a good firewall, then they can't really hack into your computer very well anyways.
