If you are talking about a simultaneous game and an anti-planet drone:

Version 1.81:

3. Fixed - AI will no longer launch "Anti-Planet" Drones in combat.

This was changed in the last patch due to the AI launching all drones in combat even if there was no planet involved. Then you couldn't recover the anti-planet drones.

I suspect a way to make this work is to make an anti-ship (type) drone but give it an anti-planet warhead and anti-planet strategy. Haven't tested this.
