 Despite the rush to get the 17 Pdr to North Africa,  I believe it was the 6Pdr that had the first successes against the Tiger.  And I would guess that 100 17 Pdrs probably didn't make much of difference at that late stage in the campaign.

 It most definitely was 6pdr that won first British tank-vs-tank engagement vs. Tiger... And the same crew also got first British tank-vs-tank Panther kill in Italy.

 The North Irish horse, if I recall correctly were the regiment (A Churchill one, with a few Shermans and others in the mix)

The Bovington Tiger 131 was K/O by 6pdr fire from 48 RTR (Churchills).
