I play in windowed mode so I can have the #spaceempires IRC channel visible
Nothing like having an audience to tell your stories to as they happen.
Also makes the game harder, as you have to type quickly, or during quiet runs across a system. And definitely try to avoid following the bad advice from the back seat captains
