Timed objectives really are best on low points values IMHO since they do tot up over time - and especially so if it is to be a grunt fight where they slog on foot!.

And it has been a decade or so since I programmed them, but I think there is a method of only starting the clock after turn X so that any approach moves don't count against the attacker.
