Well, animations are generally the oddity in the realm of free PC Roguelikes while being stock standard on the retail console and handheld stuff---so I reckon there's some happy middleground that is functional.

Biggest aspect to grant power is going to be the specific programming skill needed to gain control of the editor as referenced in the documentation...as that's where the heart of the matter lives. Otherwise, if things got more elaborate or needy, I guess outright hacking of something together would come into play.

All good things in time I hope/plan...
