explosion particles sounds like a good guess. I know on my iPad that upper/lower case matters, so maybe there's an issue there?
WW plain vanilla version uses both types of ship fracturing (pre-defined and computed at explosion), so it seems unlikely that there's an issue there. It could be possible that a mod has a ship with a pre-defined fracturing and an error in that, but most mod ships don't need it and don't have it, opting for the easier and randomness of on-the-fly fracturing.
i don't actually have a mac, but those are my thoughts, fwiw.
