Default How do I effectively use flying demons?

It's my first multiplayer game, and I was kind of planning my strategy around using summoned flying demons. So far, in the battles I've had, they are usually the first to die even though they are the strongest troops.

Are there any general tips to using them effectively? Do they have to be used in overwhelming numbers (this may be part of the problem, as I usually can't afford many of them)?

Assuming your talking about devils...

I've been using them in my first game pretty effectively, bare minimum group to deploy them in for effectiveness is 10 if you deploy them with some magic support, 15 works much better and with 20 you shouldn't take losses.

Summoning them one by one isn't very efficient though, you are better off using soul contracts or Infernal Forces.

They work best with a flying mage commander as a thug group. Due to the huge morale they can be very effective in battles with attack rear script, but be wary of storm.

It's probably that I'm not using them in large enough groups. What are the soul contracts and infernal forces? Are they spells?

By the way, I'm playing Abyssia if that makes a difference.

Infernal Forces summons a bunch of them and soul contract is an item that spawns 1 of them per turn.

Ritual of 5 Gates is also good. You get one each of the basic demon types (Devil, Demon Knight, Storm Demon, Frost Fiend, Fiend of Darkness). They don't all combine well, but they're all useful, For Abysia, Devilss & Knights combine well with your fire mages and the Storm and Frost ones are a good surprise for enemies who are prepared for fire.

You can also get a commander Devil from Horde from Hell, if you're having trouble getting flying leaders.

You can put your devils at the back, and give them orders to hold and attack rear, this way they will wait 2 turns, letting your opponent battle line disperse while advancing, and when they attack they should have a better impact.

You let some times for spells and arrows of the ennemy, but with the longer range from starting at the back of your own battle line, you should me mostly safe.

This can also works very well as support for your main army : your heavy infantry will hold the main ennemy units, preventing while your demons will attack his archers or flank the main unit.
