HB, as for old, well, geezer-hood is upon me.. sigh.. I started playing board games way back when, lst game was gettysburg by AH, large pieces... hair is greying, whats left of it more around sides and back then on top took over more more worlds and battlefields then I can remember (of course senility makes me not remember all those I lost of which there were also more then i can count , However, I always remember what my dear old grandfather once told me... "Your only as old as your little finger" Besides gaming makes everyone young so age is timeless when your engrossed in fighting off the hordes trying to beat you into the next dimension...

I miss Avalon Hill.
I also miss when the 3M Bookshelf games were so popular (for good reason!), I still play Acquire sometimes with my folks, on the holidays.

I never did that much board-wargaming. Stratego and miniature painting was about the closest I got.

I miss things like .25c Arcade games, and paperback books costing under 4 bucks, and Saturday morning cartoons.

And breakdance-fighting. I remember when that actually was like a valid means of conflict resolution.

I remember 19c gal for gas, cigs for 20c a pack and M C burgers for 7c , 35c for a show, 75c - 1.25 per hr for work. UGH.......
I rember playing pong on my tv, then my coleco and atari 2600, ah some of those old games were good, river raid, tank vs tank...and of course my subscription to SPI which made my favorite board game of course T.S.S. (Terrible Swift Sword) anad I Still have all those old SPI, AH, board and computer games plus the SPI mags and the games. Time to start selling them, no more room left to store them all and its just to hard to find players to sit down and play those long board games anymore.. everyone is into computers.. Sigh....

-- "Gameplay takes place over a large series of turns, where each daylight game turn represents 20 minutes of simulated battle action; each night turn simulates 1 hour. Game scenarios include The First Day (29 game turns), The Second Day (40 turns), Little Round Top (6 turns), The Third Day (Pickett's Charge) (21 turns), and the Grand Battle Game: The Three Days of Gettysburg (149 turns, approximated at 50 hours of playing time). The game inventory includes over 2,000 counters,[1] one 32-page rules booklet, one historical situation briefing booklet, three unmounted 22" x 32" paper game maps depicting the battlefield at 120 yards per hex, and one six-sided die. Players alternate taking turns, depending upon the scenario. The time required to play is one of the longest of all SPI games, often taking longer than it took to fight the battle in real life, and the game is sometimes jocularly referred to as "Terrible Slow Sword" in consequence."

Keep those old board games, Mac. They're a treasure.

I love board games, always have. Maybe some good day we can all play one together.

Smile Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Your on HB, would be nice to play a board game again... true TSS is a long game, but there are longer ones, War in West, War in the East and the grand game, plus war in the pacific to name just a few of the old board games. sigh.. those were the days, I used to play with 6 of my friends, but 2 moved out of state, 1 moved another county over and the other 3 are into computers and just don't have the time anymore. .... we used to play on Sunday nites. man were those games long, 1 took over 1 yr to finish, (playing only on Sunday nites... we'd get some beer, pizza etc and had a good old time, those were real fun times back then...

One really great game is world in flames, If you play it once a week it takes about two years to complete it.
