Default mine sweeping question

There is a "sweep mines" order indicated in the .pdf manual for SEV. Does one have to order ships to sweep mines, or are sweepers on automatically? If a sweeper is part of a fleet, how do you tell it to sweep. If you take it out of the fleet, how do you get it to arrive, sweep mines, and be protected by escorting ships?

Thanks!

Mines are encountered and swept automatically when ships move into a sector. You should leave the sweepers in their fleets, to keep all of the ships together.

Why is there a "sweep mines" command then?

If a minesweeping ship is somehow already in a mined sector, for example if it moved there before a treaty was broken or was built there, the sweep mines command could be used to have it sweep that sector without having to move.

Nope. That's what we thought but it doesn't work that way. You do have to move out of the sector and then back in to sweep.
