Default OT: Star Wars

There was a lovely little Star Wars marathon on TV yesterday, showing all six episodes back to back. Episodes 1-3 were what they were, but 4-6 were the "new/enhanced/improved" versions, which did a very good job of convincing me (almost as much as the new Indy movie), that George Lucas needs to have his writing pen taken away. Silly burping aliens, Greedo shooting first, what's-his-face Christiansen and Ewen McGregor in the final scene of Return of the Jedi... Seriously, wtf? It's been said that the best writing comes from angst, and when your only worries are tax returns and stock portfolios, you shouldn't be writing about people with problems greater than their investment returns. Though at least most of Episodes 1-3 weren't Qui-Gon and Kenobi labouring over spreadsheets trying to figure out how to fill out Form 783K (Requisition For Use Of A Lightsaber On A Bulkhead Door).

But I digress... I'm wondering if anyone out there knows where I might get my hands on a copy of Episodes 4-6 before Lucas mutilated them. I don't mind spiffed up special effects, or a few extra scenes, but I want the versions where Han shoots first and Sebastian Shaw in the last scene from Jedi.

Either the laserdisc version (yes, dinner plate sized) or there is a black boxed set on VHS that is the last version before Lucas went back and "completed his vision."

Or you can go to your local Wal-Mart. They're now selling the original Star Wars on dvd now. I forgot how the packaging looks like, since I've only bought SW4, and still haven't had the chance to watch it yet, but it's supposed to the original version (after adding the episode 4 to it).

Wait until the new remastered, remastered, versions come out. I hear all of the old SFX are gone and they have digitally imposed McGregor image and voice over that of Alec. Sick.

I hope you're joking AT, I really am. Because if you're not, I may very well have to take up arms to protect my childhood from being violated anymore than it already has.
