Default Great Idea!

I remember playing MULE on the Commodore 64. What great fun that was. Looking forward to this game, can't wait to try the demo. From the screenshots it looks just like MULE, you guys are not worried about being sued by EA? (I'm serious)

Also you have an extra 0 in 1980s on the game info description screen

Picky Picky.

No, this is a game INSPIRED by MULE, it is not a complete MULE clone as it has some new ideas.

This seems to be a common thought among many people. What many people don't remember is that LOTS of games are inspired and modeled on games that were previously successful. Just look at all the real-time strategy games with the same gameplay but different graphics/sounds/names. How about first-person shooters? I don't think anybody has been sued for making Doom or Quake clones.

Personally, I am only inspired to make a game if there is a need for it, not because a previous game was popular. If somebody else already did it, then I'm not going to bother.

But I realized that many people (including me) still want to play M.U.L.E., and how nobody has created another game like it that runs on a modern PC, so I decided to do it. If somebody else had already made a game like Space HoRSE, I would have made something else instead.

There. It's off my chest.

I too loved MULE.

Question, it says that four people can play on one computer. How? Will it support multiple game pads or what?

Any chance of multiple machines on a LAN?

Yes, multiple input devices. You can choose mouse, keyboard, or joystick/gamepad.

Unfortunately, network play isn't supported.

What is Shrapnel Games trying to do, make sure that I never buy software from any other company ever again? SEIV Gold, TWE and now Space HoRSE? Might as well put the CD in and superglue my CDRom shut!
Being the only farmer and causing a famine just to increase my profits was the best. So was that sinking feeling you got when you watched all the production units for ore disappear after the pirate raids.

What do you mean, no LAN play??? Playing a game similar to M.U.L.E. over a LAN/WAN would be the ultimate improvement upon a classic game. Please consider using even a rudimentary tcp/ip network capability. I'm talking, like having to enter ip addresses manually, or whatever. I have waited for some iteration of my most memorable game i've played. In that waiting i've prayed for multi-PC play. I do like the multi-user on a single PC play, and I even think it is important to have. I believe that not having a multi-pc component of some sorts may make this game an almost-ran. How many people have 2 josticks/gamepads? How many 30 something adults can really crowd around one monito and keyboard?

Reconsider. Please.

Your points are all true. However, if we reconsidered, the only other option right now would be to wait up to another year before seeing the game at all. In the meantime, you save $10 compared to the regular price of typical Shrapnel Games and get to play shoulder-to-shoulder with your closest friends. Network play is by far the most requested feature, but this milestone had to be reached first.

Todd, you mentioned in an earlier post that you would only create a game if you found a need for it. Does this mean you have designed other games?

Yes, but nothing published. Years ago I made a couple small games on the Amiga, and before that I made things on my Atari 800XL.
