How active is the PBEM scene?

I've been a looooonnngggg time fan (player) of the Steel Panther family of games dating back into the early 90's and I'm considering purchasing this newer version. My question is, how often are folks seeking PBEMs? Sure it's fun to beat up on the AI but what I really want is to enjoy civil and challenging games against other users. (I understand that this newer version has the ability to inhibit folks from reloading game scenarios too which really turned me off when playing PBEMs with others in the past.)

So again, how active is the PBEM scene for this newer version of winSPWW2?
