Default Need help - 4th Human scenario

In the Great Gate scenario, I'm at a loss. The gnomes build so fast that they seem to overwhelm me before I even get going. Any suggestions on how to beat those pesky gnomes?

Thanks,
Ken

I think in those kind of scenarios, you don't want to rush the computer. You want to take a few cities and build up enough firepower that you can kill the gnome units as they come in. So you will be at an economic disadvantage, but use tactics to build up a military advantage until you're able to advance.

Monks are key to fighting back the Legendmakers (I don't think you can keep the Legendmakers from coming out): they take no retaliation, and have decent damage themselves (if you can take a Gnome city, it's even better), and don't die to a single Legendmaker strike. They're also pretty good for early expansion.

Edit: I can't find a way to make a screenshot, but I just relaunched that scenario (Legendary campaign: you have 18 turns to take the city). I win on turn 15, with 2 archangels (one, made in the northeast city near the lake, was key to the attack; the other was made to defend the capitol from a Legendmaker attack). The computer has only Gardeners at the end of turn 14.

(Actually, this is kind of a rush attack, mostly using the Monks that did the initial expansion)

FYI -- you should be able to take a screenshot using the print-screen key, and then launching a paint program (like mspaint) and pasting the image into there. You can then save that file.

I often took screenshots like this. =)

Phil:

I guess I didn't study my units! I used monks to counteract the Legendmakers and finished the scenario with little trouble.

Thanks for the tips!

Ken
