Default Access Violation Error

First off, this is an excellent game so far, one that has very few bugs in it at all. And it's a ton of fun to boot.

Unfortunately, as I'm playing around in the first campain, I've run into this most annoying bug.

"Access violation in address 004F0285 in module 'StarFury.exe'. Read of address 00000018"

This only happens as I'm exploring the Neutral systems of Ukara and Huju (and possibly other ones in that area), and is quite problematic as it's time based. In other words, once I've spent enough stardate time, it will crash. Always. On the exact same stardate. And I have plot based missions there right now, so I'm now at a stopping point.

I'm running the P&N Homefront mod (an excellent mod BTW - available here on the Boards from Suicide Junkie), which I know already brings this outside the realm of your area, as I'm no longer using the standard game. I just love the modifications he uses too much.

My system:
AMD 2100XP, 1gig RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, motherboard based sound, WinXP.

I've tried running the game under Windows 95/98/whatever compatability mode, and I've tried turning down/off all the options under the Setup menu. I'm not overclocking my videocard, nor am I running anything in the background that would affect the program. I've also tried different resolutions, color depths, and running the game in it's own window.

Any ideas? I'll upload a save game if needed, and provide a complete ship spec listing if that would help.

I would recommend e-mailing the save game to Malfador/Aaron Hall.

Hmm, since its under my mod, its quite possibly my fault...
Are you using the latest Version, that I posted just yesterday?

Also try taking different paths through the system or warping out before the crash, and then back in.

And posting a savegame for me to inspect would help too.
If I load it, and it dosen't have any problems, it may have been a problem that was already fixed in the beta patches.

Sj, I'm getting the same errors when using your mod. Posted a savegame- this is in the Pantrica system, fighting a Fazrah freighter. I had just about destroyed its rear armor when the game crashed with an Access Violation error.

I used the latest Version of your mod, and thankfully it solved all the problems I had.

Unfortunately, I found another bug. If I try to purchase an Abbidon Carrier, I immediately drop to the desktop with a 'Range Check Error'. I can buy the other ships in their fleet, just not the Carrier.

Something you might want to look at, especially since I'm looking for a slight upgrade in space, and that would be the perfect ship for my needs.

Phoenix:
I tried that save yesterday, but couldn't get it to crash...
First time, the TCN fleet thrashed the freighter before I could get much through the shields.
Second time, I was better at using the APBs, and dug through to kill it, no problem.

BTW, APBs are better at higher tech levels... you should probably equip some projectile weapons until tech improves.

If the modification date of your main_components.txt is before the October 17th, try downloading the newer Version.
(You'll have to leave the system to clean out NPCs with bad components)

Destructor:
Its too late tonight to play through and test the Abbidon carriers.
Is there one in particular you're having the problem with (MK 1,2,3)?
I'll look into it when I'm awake

That was the latest Version, I think.

TCN fleet? Zuh? I didn't see one. I did play it again, saw only other frieghters and a pair of hostile destroyers. Anyway, I killed it without a crash..

Turns out there is an armor slot on that ship that dosen't have a facing.

Quite impossible to do with my slot modder, so I'm not sure how it got in there.
I'm digging through the slot layouts now and will upload a new zip shortly.

Shrapnel's uploading system is out, so you can download a patch to replace the P&N slot layouts here:
