Default Random Maps

If I generate a random map using the tools (so I can customize the settings), does the map contain all the site placements, etc? Or is that added when you creae the game?

Sites are placed when you actually create a game.

Thanks!

That means if I ever generate a neat random map, there is value in re-using it.

Yes, much of it is re-randomized with each game. The only things that the map generator locks in are the map image, the neighbors you can move to, and the terrains (forest, mountain, swamp, etc).

It re-randomizes with each play where the players start, the population types you can find in each province, the defenders, the magic sites.

Of course if you WANT to, there are commands to lock those things down on a map. Specifically designing those things for a map can make it more interesting but would tend to lower the replayablity.

(the Semi-Random program being developed by players grants the best of both. Not so completely random, but can be re-randomized)

Default Site locations - Re: Random Maps

Actually, there are some site locations written into the map file as part of the terrain code: Those are rumored sites (or however you like to put it), which show as special icons on the map. Check out the ICONS on the MAP??? - Thread.

Mind though, that those are not sites, but only guaranteed locations to find some random site from certain path.
